I have a SATA Drive, but my bro's PC doesn't have a SATA slot.

I've come over to Australia to visit family and stuff and before I left I loaded up my 500gb Western Digital Hard Drive with films and stuff intending to stick it in my bro's PC but unfortunately it's a bit old, and having opened it up I can't see a slot to put the little white wire with the orange ends in. Is there any way I can get around this, perhaps with some sort of converter/adaptor lead or something? His other 2 hard drives are the old fashioned sort (big bulky leads)

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply. So basically that's like a dock I put my SATA Drive in, which is then connected to the PC by USB? Does this mean I can leave my brother's two hard drives connected inside?

Thanks guys. I bought this (there really aren't any computer shops in this part of Oz so I had to make do :( and it's sort of working, but not entirely.

It's connected and picks up power but the blue power indicator doesn't stay on frequently. It seems to flash briefly then disappear and on the rare occasion it's permanent, when I then try and transfer a file off of the hard drive inside it will freeze. It says 5 minutes to transfer, 4...3...then it'll just stop and the blue light will turn off indicating transfer has failed. I've connected all of the wires correctly and installed the drivers using the disc that came with it, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Does anyone have an idea? I just turned it now on for example and it flicked blue for an instant, turned off, then back on briefly, then off again. It's actually 'on' (I can feel the enclosure humming) but the LED light isn't on. Also when this happens I'm unable to open My Computer and things like that, and the second I disconnect the USB that connects the HDD enclosure to my pc, everything I've tried to open previously will then pop up, as if the enclosure being connected stopped everything else opening. Oh, the PC also refuses to go any further than the 'loading' windows boot screen, until I pull the USB lead out of the PC and it then loads up instantly, then I can put it back in, and receive the same problems mentioned above. :(

Appreciate any help!

Edit - Oh, just tried turning the enclosure on with the HD inside, but NOT connected to the PC via USB, and it's on and the LED is solid, so there's definitely an issue with the enclosure being connected to the PC, whether it's the USB slot, or something, I'm not sure. I've tried it in every USB slot on the computer however, and the same issue occurs. Those same USB slots are fine for other peripherals. :(

I tried the HD about 48 hours prior on a different computer and it was fine. I've been playing around with it some more today and it seems to connect to the computer okay, and I have been transferring files under 500mb to the PC with no problem (the blue LED light flickers) but then when I try and transfer a bigger file the LED turns off at some stage between transferring, and it doesn't work. So it seems to be an issue with either too big files, or something like that? Does anyone know why that might be?

i'd stop using it if you're getting errors (don't want it to trash your drive)

try to get an 'icybox' enclosure, they're very good build quality

icybox 390 series is the nicest :)
