I have a 200Gb Seagate sata drive that is partitioned (40Gb for Vista and rest) which I noticed under the SMART tab of Speedfan, the "fitness" bar is at about 25-30%.

Is this a problem?

I have 2 other drivers, all about the same age, a 160gb Seagate IDE and a 250Gb WD sata, both read nearly 100% on the "fitness" bar.

I assume that is Speedfans interpretation of S.M.A.R.T data which deosn't seem too helpful. Grab HDTune and see what the status is in there as it gives you all the figures.

According to HDTune, the health status is OK.

2 lines are highlighted in yellow, Reallocated Sector Count and Spin Retry Count.

On a side note, my WD drive always registers as being around 200C when my machine first boots up (in Speedfan and HDTune) but will go back to the normal 38C after a couple of mins. Is this something to be concerned about or a dodgy sensor?

Work the drive out m8, do copying and stuff, it will soon get fit..lol But honnestly when I got my wd 500gb drive, the fitness was at 90% and after a bit of copying and stuff it jumped to 98%.

I'm starting to seriously doubt Speedfan's temperature gauge. If it wasn't for ability to lower fan speeds I wouldn't touch it at all. My temperatures range wildely all over the place :(

Speedfan doesn't work properly on processors either, at least not my C2D.

As I understand nothing gets the temps right for the Intel chips as that don't diectly report temps but only the temp above a certain figure - which varies model to model. So what the various applications do is guess...
