Newcastle United

Owen

Michael Owen has given a strong indication that he plans to stay at Newcastle after revealing he cannot wait for the start of next season.

Modric

Meanwhile, Newcastle are being strongly linked with a move for Croatia star Luka Modric.

Modric is one of the most sought-after players in Europe with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Barcelona all credited with an interest in the Dinamo Zagreb schemer.

However, reports suggest Newcastle have stolen a march on their rivals by inviting Modric to Tyneside for talks and a visit to the club's training ground.

Modric is believed to have met with football executive director Dennis Wise and head of player recruitment Tony Jimenez with Newcastle thought to be ready to pay £20million.

Hopefully Owen will sign a new deal

As for this modric thing, god knows, but £20m on a player is a lot of money, even for newcastle. I doubt he will come here though, but if he has visited the training ground like reported there may be something in it

Owen sign a new deal? Pffff, he owes Newcastle a free 6 solid months worth of work. Until he gets a body thats not made out of candy-floss, I'd drop his wages majorly.

EDIT:

Liverpool have reportedly signed Philipp Degen on a free from Borussia Dortmund

...doesn't really set the excitement flame alight tbh. Another squad player to add to our collection :(

I heard Arsenal were going to sign Ben Arfa and Eto wanted to play for Arsenal. Still don't get why Wneger rejected Villa, he seems like a great player and we need more established players. I hope we get rid of Gallas and put Toure as the captain. Maybe we need a new goal keeper. Almunia seems ok, but not very commanding like Lehman, I atleast, felt a bit more secure with Lehman between the posts.

tbh paying Flamini 50k a week is pretty poor, Arsenal are one of the tops sides in Europe.

Whats the word on this English speaking player Rafa has signed, any ideas yet?

I wonder if its El-Tel?
Although I'm sceptical of that, it's not as wildly unlikely as it sounds. I remember an interview with Henry from years ago where he admitted that Liverpool were the English side he'd always wanted to play for before he came to Arsenal (because of the Anfield crowd). That, and I didn't actually realise that he's been seperated from his kid, as he split up with his wife before moving to Spain (thus, they're both still here).

Arsenal's situation is really interesting. Wenger should pay what he needs to pay in order to keep Flamini. Yes he's only had one good season - but it can be argued that he's been a consistant defensive midfielder. It seems there aren't that many who are Champion's League quality and really affordable, if we just up his wages a bit we'd save a lot of money overall, I mean Liverpool paid £18m for theirs, we paid £2.5m compensation to PSG if I remember correctly. He'll only get better. He's also proven that he can play well in other positions e.g. LB, so at least he'd be somebody who's got some experience in the squad as Gilberto is more than likely on his way out.

I'd be gutted if Hleb did leave but not overly disappointed. He doesn't get that many goals and his defensive work (in the games I've seen) isn't that sound. I reckon Walcott will prove better with more opportunities if he's to have fewer people in his way (Hleb, Rosicky and Cesc and Touré (?) would probably play on the right wing before he does, though Wenger was quote recently as saying that will change).

Eboué must go, I hate him, he can't defend, attack and he's a fouling so and so. However he does have some experience in his pocket and isn't afraid to get stuck in ...at times..he can also play in more than one position which is fairly useful.

By numbers I don't think we need another striker. However Adebayor still needs somebody consistently up with him. Bendtner isn't really cutting it and the guy has a bad attitude too. He might go the way of Bentley and be good enough for a midtable side but I don't see much more to him than that. Eduardo's going to be a few months away still, and RvP is a bit of a sicknote so somebody else is probably necessary.

We need another CB/person who can play there as Senderos continues to be a one big mistake per game player. He's had too many chances and we need to get rid as he's cost us a lot of games over the years. I reckon the team feel it as well, midfielders are more reluctant to go up and attack when the team as a whole isn't as steadfast at the back (if that makes sense lol). Saying that Havard Nordtveit is supposed to be somebody coming through the ranks. Though as Gilberto (as said above) is probably going to leave, Lehmann too we need some older people in the squad.

Eboue is decent backup for RB, other that that I see no need to keep him. And I've never seen him get stuck in, he always backs out of 50/50 balls.

The trouble with Bendtner and Adebayor playing together is that, firstly, they're far too similar. Lanky strikers who play right up top and wait for the ball to come to them. Secondly, Bendy* is just a tad too selfish for my liking. Ade can be at times too, but this season he's learnt to play a bit more for the team and feed it round if he needs to, but he still needs someone to feed him the final ball, and Bendy won't do that. They both need a more technical player, a supplier, alongside them (RvP, Eduardo, or Hleb). Seperately, one makes a decent replacement for the other, but together they don't really gel.

As for Flamini, what can you really do? By all reports Juventus aren't offering him all that much more than we are, and it'll be very "Cashley **** nearly crashing his car in a quivering rage" of him if he tried to claim it was about the money. I think, if he goes, it'll be for his own reasons, which is fair enough I guess. Personally, I think he'd be mad to do it now. He's finally broken into the team, established a name for himself, and looks to be set for life. The only reason I can really think of is that he wants to earn a place in the France squad, and Domenech does seem to have a bit of an issue with Wenger.

In could have happened last summer. Gerrard has admitted to speeking to Henry about it but he'd already agreed the Barca move.
At the time, I couldn't have seen us selling him to another English team. But now, with his family situation, it would be very understandable for him to come back over here.

One question though, is how well do you see him linking with Torres? I guess he'd start playing a slower role these days, but he's still always been the key man at Arsenal, and obviously that won't be so there.

Saw that just after I wrote all that. :o

In fairness, when he says "there's only one club in England for me", he seems to be talking more about being a fan.

Wouldn't be happy if Bentley showed up at Anfield. We already have enough players who think they are miles better than they really are e.g Pennant, Kewell, Riise, Voronin.

Oh please! Bentley is leagues ahead of them. I'd also rate him ahead of Alonso for his passing game. You need someone who can sit out on the right and knock the ball around and Bentley would be perfect for that.

I agree, he is leagues ahead but he is still not world class and has an ego the size of a planet.

To compete with your lot we need to sign world class players and alas, bentley is not one- he just thinks he is.
