Exactly, so that concludes that if you ask how much a car costs to run, it doesn't necessarily mean you cannot afford it......your initial statement is thus bs.
You obviously do not understand english. You seem to be confusing my statement with the old adage "if you have to ask, then you cannot afford it"
I never said you couldn't ask how much it costs to run a vehicle, I said if you are wondering if you can afford to run a vehicle then you're not rich enough to buy it.
If you are going to buy a car without knowing how much it will cost you, then you need to be rich enough to cover all eventualities. The word "rich" is relative. Somebody on £45k a year will be "rich" compared to someone on the minimum wage. For example, I could easily afford to run a mondeo, whatever the costs, and could therefore go and buy one today without caring. I wouldn't need to "wonder" if I could afford it. I am, to all intents and purposes, rich enough to buy one.
If I was thinking of buying an Aston, however, then I would need to know the running costs before buying one. I'm not rich enough to go out and buy one without calculating the costs and being sure that my income would cover the expenditure. If I looked at the costs and was still not sure that it all added up, then, in reality, I'm still not rich enough to afford it.
Ergo if I was "wondering" if I could afford a certain vehicle, then I'm not rich enough to buy it. I could only afford it if I "knew" damn well that I could afford it.
So, to re-iterate my point, only rich people can afford to buy something without finding out if they can afford it first. If you have to pause for thought, then you're not really rich enough to buy without doing the sums.
You
might be able to afford it, and I never said you couldn't ask, but you can't afford to buy it without knowing that you can afford it.
