hi all im interested in buyin the above ive read a few reviews and it seems a good game. my question is: is this a good role playing game and how much is the subscription, do u play online only or does it have a single player mode too?
ive looked for these answers but cant seem to find anything

Thanks in advance

download 7 day free trial and see for yourself, i got 2 days remaining and am pretty sure that i'm gonna continue playing at least for a month or two and then swap to AoC if i like reviews and hopefully they'll offer a free trial as well

gonna hijack this a bit with my question;)
if i do decide to keep playing is it worth picking up the retail copy or shall i just subscribe?

brilliant thanks im dl now

not sure what official site is called, lotro.com probably won't steer you far wrong, or google. Will be a hefty download as you need(i assume) the full game client, can't recall if the 7 days is limited to a certain level or just certain things not available like AH and other stuff. probably around a 8-9gig download, might be a smaller non high res texture version for the trial.

In general to keep playing after the trial i think you do indeed need to buy a retail copy and then add the retail key to account you make for the trial and it will update it to full version. Now's not a bad time to get it, several months to make a few alts and get to high level, think book 13, latest free expansion is out quite soon then the big expansion, new zones, 10 more levels and more skills and what not is around sept/oct i think.

Its decent as far as MMo's go, you really have to play it yourself as everyone likes different things. Its not that pvp heavy, though should you want, you can spend all your time in the pvp zone, up to you. You need a level 40 hero character to go in, however you can make play in pvp zone as high level monster's once you hit lvl 10 on a hero character(which won't take long at all).

its quick 5.6gig download for hi-res and then few more megs maybe a gig for all the patches but they go slow (50-60k/s) :(
its definetly worth a try
going to town to watch united so will pick up the retail copy as well :D

just go to www.lotro.com and download NOW 14 DAYS trial, damn i feel cheated now :(

Oh come on- use your brain just a little and search for yourself!

Its taken longer for me to write this post than it has to find out from Google:

You can find out all the factual info you need from the LOTRO website's FAQ-

There you are :)
why bother posting if u going to whine about it throwing your toys out ** pram

It looks like u can only be a "Man, Elf, Dwarf or Hobbit", you can't be the "dark" side Nazgûl, Trolls, and Uruk-Hai. Its unusual to only be able to play the light side in a MMO.

You can play as monsters if you want to.

The main game is centred around 'light' as you call you it. You do the usual quests, etc. and when you're level 40+ you can enter the PvP realm where you fight the monsters (the monsters you play).

The monsters you do play in the game can not be used in the same way as you play your main character.

The games main quests are called books and in them you play chapters. You normally get to meet some of the main world characters (Aragon, Bilbo, etc.) and go on quests with them. They are really well done.

To make you character seperate to someone elses they have traits. Traits can be obtained by lots of means such as killing 120 bats or doing so many quests.

It's worth playing IMHO it's more a mature orrientated game (so not as many kids on it as other MMO's) and the community is very helpful.

I've recently got back into it (I managed to get to level 10 after launch and never carried on) and am really enjoying myself. Although I don't really RP, I play on one of the RP servers and the community seem's fantastic. There's also quite a few low level char's running around too - so lot's of opportunity for grouping up.

Why bother posting just because you are lazy and can't be bothered to find things out for yourself. Stop being such an ungrateful fool and take the help you have been given.

lol do one idiot!!!
Grow up.

As for LOTRO itself. It's crap, don't bother!

Play the trial, I really liked it, apparently it's been much improved since I last played, quite due to running out of quests at 44 and my friends not being online enough to grind with me.

Like all MMO's the experience can be greatly improved with friends playing along side you.

The subscription will be £7-9 a month, Turbine are one of the few that actually give you something for this.
