All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

You may be able to argue that Carrick offers more than Alonso going forward but there is no comparison in passing ability. Alonso hits passes on his left foot that Carrick couldnt hit if he had 10 attempts on his right.

Liverpool are Noted by fans throughout the country for their sweet effective controlled possession football especially compared to United i suppose...

oh wait.

anyway thread is getting derailed.

:D

Man for man Liverpool have the best midfield in the league, don't argue.

Heinze to Liverpool. ;) You heard it from me first.

Carrick>Alonso. On the top of his game, there is no better passer than Carrick who can hit a ball with either foot. Liverpool fans obviously will disagree as their midfield players are the best in the world, even the backup players. :p

For Man Utd, I'd like to see us get a striker and a defender. And get rid of Saha, his injury list is shocking:

Bought in January 2004

We've had him just shy of four and a half years, during that time we have played approximately 260 games in all competitions, Saha has featured in 124 games, and out of those 124 games, he started in 76 of them and came on as a sub in 48. Percentage wise, he has started 29% of the games we've played during his time with us. And bagged 42 goals which isn't too shabby. But I still want him gone. His name in our squad regardless of whether he is fit or not, is hindering the idea of bringing a new striker in.

SPURS HAVE SIGNED MODRIC - BACK OF THE NET BOYS!!! :D :D :D

Good stuff. Obviously this whole credit crunch hasn't affected Spurs as much as some had expected.

It'll be nice to have a midfielder that isn't totally mediocre. I'd like to think that this will convince Berbatov to give Spurs one more year but I doubt it'll happen.

Let us not forget, Bentley has now performed at a top level for 2 seasons. That's one more than Alonso.

eh? Alonso, if I'm not mistaken, played for Real Sociedad in La Liga prior to signing for Liverpool? is this not "a top level" - add to that 40 odd caps for Spain, and his credentials shouldn't be in doubt.

Additionally, he is a completely different player to Bentley, with a far superior range of passing, although of course, Bentley offers more in other elements of the game - carrying the ball etc.

Any idea of the fee for Modric. The rags have been going on about £15-20m but i wouldn't be suprised if it was closer to £10m.

Your usualy witty reply :p

Also what's with Mancs always confusing team and individual performances?

And Linoge, i could have sworn you've said before that Gerrard is the best passer to have played in the EPL :p

Back up your claims. I know you're the Alex Ferguson of these forums, always archiving quotes from people in a big bumper book so you can refer to them years later. :p :D

It's just when you say something sensible it's such a shock i remember it :p ;)

Here's a clue, go have a look at the threads you've started ;)

edit: i'll sort your money out soon :(

Whatever do you mean young Baz? ;) :p

edit: Don't worry about the money, I just hope you have learned your lesson, never bet on Liverpool finishing above Man Utd in the Premiership. :p

lol

edit: i didn't want to bet, you pressured me into it :( I'll donate the money to a charity of your choice if you don't want it.

Modric's fee I have seen most frequently quoted is around £15m

You never know that could be after x amount of appearances, X UEFA/CL games etc - or it could be the basic, but £10m or so up front would be reasonable

He's Man Utds best midfielder and in the second half of the season, I'd say the best CM in the league.

I'd take Carricks passing over Alonso's ANY DAY.
There isn't much to choose between Alonso and Carrick so it comes down to personal opinion but best CM in the league? Nope.

Tottenham have done very well to sign Modric - although the price tag is a bit rich.

Good player to have in the league though and should provide some quality moments.

I'm genuinely shocked at the Modric transfer... yet another great coup. £15.8m is a lot of money though, wonder if it's from the Berbatov fund??

Is that a straight fee or installments etc?

Also i seriously doubt a lot of the rumours about all the top clubs around Europe being after him.
