All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

Modric seems like a decent player but where as he proven himself? Only with Croatia it seems, which can happen with a lot of players- Greece 2004, Senegal 2002 to name a couple.

lol why are you being so defensive?

The only thing linking him with any of the top clubs was his agent.

@Ripper: Slogan mentioned we were linked with him but i said i doubted we were after him.
lol wasn't being defensive at all, I suppose the :p smilie was missing.

I don't know a great deal about him, I've seen him play a few times and when I heard Spurs were after him I genuinely thought we didn't stand a chance. As I said, very suprised we've got him.

Have Spurs been very clever striking so early with a big offer? Or have we bought another lemon?

Big fee for a young lad... I just hope Spurs fan don't go expecting him to outshine Fabregas within his first season ;)

Modric has pretty average stats on FM but he always ends up getting a bucket load of assists.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, FM are usually right :p:o

I'm hoping the following will leave Chelsea this Summer:

Shevchenko - He's past it, plain and simple and has been since we've had him, MLS beckons I reckon.
Pizarro - Not sure what he ever had but I'd much rather see Di Santo, Sinclair or Philliskirk on the bench than him.
Malouda - Failed to deliver his undoubted talent and he's had enough opportunities.
SWP - As above really.
Ferreira - Decent player but when you're third choice behind one of our best MF's at RB then you're surplus especially as Ivanovic will hopefully start featuring soon.
Sidwell - ACoN isn't on next year so he won't be needed.
Tal Ben Haim - Crud.
Grant - He's still riding JM's waves and we need someone with a better pedigree in charge if we're to lure the players we need.

It's unlikely all those will leave though as the majority are very well paid so might not want to go and it would cost too much to replace them.

Drogba will probably get his wish to leave but as long as we get a good fee for him and replace him with someone other than Anelka that's fine as his heart and mind are elsewhere now.
Makelele might go to a quiet French side too, he's still great when he gets a game but I'd imagine at 35 the bodily strain of playing in the hardest league in the world has caught him up.
I'd hate to lose people like Bridge and Cuducini who aren't 1st choice but would be at the majority of other PL teams but you wouldn't blame them if they left.
:)

I hope Drogba leaves Chelsea too :p

Be interesting to see if any Chelsea players join up with Mourinho IF he finds a new club this summer.

Not at all, he won't win us either, he might be in charge but that's it.
If we win anything this year it'll be down to the fact that we have some great players and a great team spirit but those factors have been at the club for a few years now.
Apart from Anelka he hasn't made any signings who've made the 1st team and the style of football hasn't changed either really.
I think he'll still be there next year and so maybe after a Summer with the players just training him and HTC will make a stamp on the side but so far that hasn't happened:)

gah on toon not getting modric, though I have to admit I no nothing about him so can't assess the wether or not we have really missed out

Newcastles main problem is attracting players without Euro football, I think we may struggle....

as for rumours, only two for Newcastle today

Celtic, Newcastle and Aston Villa are vying for the signature of Bournemouth's Sam Vokes, reckons the News of the World).

and we are supposed to be looking at Andy Johnson for £10
- my thoughts, god we don't want him

Yes newcastle would only go upto £20m apparently... so Spurs nipped in with a cheeky £16m offer and £30k a week wages and Modric, who was so desperate to join his 'first choice' dream move to Newcastle... signed there and then for the mighty Hotspur ;) :p

Wages are irrelevant to to my point.

As for the final price, who knows what goes on behind the scenes.
