Deus Ex or Stalker?

Get both. Be warned, DX was great but has aged - I think most people have forgotten how much until you play it again. I did not too long ago and honestly I uninstalled as I rather keep my good memories intact.

RE: Odo's comment, I can't believe you thought Stalker was overated. That is simply not true it was underated if anything (I am not saying that it was the greatest game) especially when compared to Bioshock or Crysis, although good but totally overated.

deus ex 1 is really good better then stalker but remember deus ex is old game so graphics are out of date but stalker has some nice graphics and good game play to

Deus Ex 1 wins by miles. Best game ever made, period. If you've not played it before, then you have a treat. You will get a good 20-30 hours of gameplay from DX1 if you dont use a guide. Look past the dated unreal engine graphics and you will experience a single player like no other. There is so much to Deus Ex, even today, I still play it. For added fun, play it with the Shifter mod. It adds some nice features that were missing from vanilla DX. Like skill points for every kill, random drops from enemies (so awesome picking up augmentation upgrades, and 20mm HE ammo from MJ12 troops) things like that :)

Deus Ex is an excellent game, I replayed it recently and it does look very dated, for obvious reasons. This didn't ruin it too much for me but some people seem very sensitive to these things so if you need better graphics, STALKER is pretty amazing.

I am currently replaying STALKER and keep finding new things and places that I didn't know about first time around. It's a huge free-roaming game and I think it's also excellent.

Deux Ex storyline is better but obviously STALKER looks better these days.

Play Deus Ex first, then play STALKER, there's so much to both of them.

Yeah..... STALKER is a good game but if you've not played Deus EX at all then your missing out and I'd recommend that first..... hands down. Put simply it is one of the best games I have ever played, thing is you can play it through a number of times picking a different skill set each time makes you play the game totally differently and will open up different avenues.

Deus Ex 2 does not have the cutting edge gripping playability that the first had but its still decent and worth a play.... epecially for $20 and like someone else said..... make your own mind up about it.

I'd give STALKER a play through though once your done with the Deus Ex's, its an excellent game..... very unique and eery setting.

STALKER is amazing with all the latest patches... graphics are superb and its a fun yet original game... however Deus EX is equally as good but the graphics are very dated now...

If your not bothered about graphics being bad then go for deus ex as it will take you the same time to complete number 1 as it would just STALKER.... then youll have Deus Ex 2 to play with!

Having purchased Deus Ex again for replay Ive found it runs in what can only be described as "turbo mode".... anyone have any ideas how to fix this please? :)

I think you guys should install Deus Ex just to refresh your memory before you set it against anything new. As good game as it was, the gap between Deus Ex 1 and Stalker, in this day and age is like between 1931 Dracula with Bela Lugosi and Saw movies today. Yes, Saw might be complete poinless, stretched, B rated horror flick, vs timeless classic story driven Dracula, but if you had to choose between 90 minutes of heavy on gore modern horror vs return to silent cinema for this evening's entertainement, believe me you'd pick the former.

It's the same with Deus Ex. Install it guys, see how your memories faded. Check out the vast fields of pattern repeating walls, gun duels 5 yards apart with chubby, stocky guards using most imprecise weaponry on this side of stone age (including the notorious violently swinging, drunk-on-the-sea scope of the sniper rifle). Briliant game as Deus Ex was, back in the day, just let the man shoot some pseudodogs and find Strelok already, why won't ya.

yeah, you have set affinity in task manager for a dual core. disable a core.

its a dual core bug.

stalker is very, very close to deus ex. i dont know how anybody could say anywise. the gun modeling, the interaction between other you and other characters, the weather system (after mods), the wildlife. its such a complete game in an open way that deus ex never was. its tough to call

you've played stalker then? lol

i firmly believe that stalker was underrated because of the state it was in when it was released. hell i bought the radiation edition on launch day, played it once and put it away untill a few weeks ago because it was so unstable and performed dreadfully. now...totally different story.

Same here

I'm using Vista too and we all know how it ran on Vista to begin with!

It had loads of potential though so I'm tempted to re-install it, patch it and give it another go

Well I got the Deus Ex package and played for a few hours last night. As warned the graphics are a bit on the dated side but I can look past that, seems like quite an interesting story and I like the secondary missions you can pick up along the way - makes you explore your environment a bit more. :)

Biggest problem I've found with it is no save points in the game. On the first level I got right into the statue and then died, only to realise I had to do the whole thing again because I hadn't saved...

Apart from that I'm enjoying it. :)

Yeah I think with modern games (especially now that there are so many console ports/hybrids) we have gotten used regular autosaves, which means that when playing older titles we sometimes forget about it.
