Google for that one and you're sorted:) There's another firmware group about, but I'm not what it's called. It's meant to be slightly better however.

The new firmware unlocks some extra settings in the router web admin page and also permenantly enables 'debug mode' so you can telnet into the router whenever you want without having to manually enable it.

edit: And of course, enables Annex M support.

Im with Be* (highly reccomend them) and after reading this post I ordered myself one but cant seem to find the "Uber" firmware Be* reccomends..

On MY line I got an unstable 8 or 9mb on the pro service, which was not worth the extra money. Downgraded to a more reliable, cheaper 7 to 8mb service very easily.
 
Just completed my order for 20MB Be* (or should that be 02 by now?)

Recent change of address complicated matters (not to mention that Be*'s order confirmation wont currently accept Direct Debit info) - all my bank cards where registered to the old address for 24 hours after they were actually changed at the bank

Been advised it should be about a week for the line to be up and running and to recieve the modem/router

Going to try with the freebe box before going netgear - anything should be better than what I was using (upto 8mb line that was unreliable at best and 4mb in best conditions) from Eclipse
 
Signed up today finally :)

Cant wait to get the service. Getting a little sick of Pipex now.

Hopefully it wont take the maxium 4 weeks that it could take.
 
Hey Bennah. Interested in getting Be at home and dropping BT. How do you do the transfer? Would BT cut me off instantly and I'd be left with no broadband until Be activated my account?
 
You would need to get a mac code of BT then give this over the phone to Be when you order, then I believe once the installation date comes you should be without the net for a day or so when they transfer you to their LLU exchange well this was the case for me.

Nope shouldn’t be, mine was down at around 7am came home from work 6ish and the line was synced, that’s of course you receive the router on time :D There shouldn’t be more than a day’s outage, I would ask the over the phone just to double check though.

Ah right. I ask because my little brother will get annoyed if he has more than a few hours without Internet access.

And to all intents I've heard the Be supplied router is rubbish and so I might try and find one that would work with Be. :)

I find the speedtouch okay tbh, the only downfall is the wireless signal strength and drop outs, connected via Ethernet and there isn’t any issues, you would need to get a mac code off BT rather than cancelling the service as without a mac code the transfer to Be will take much longer.



What is a MAC? - Migration Access Codes, generally known as MAC codes allow you to seamlessly switch broadband provider, without any break in your service. Technically, a MAC code is like a serial number used to identify your broadband connection within the local exchange. If you’re switching provider and they have this code, they can simply move your connection over to their service.

What does this mean? - This means that rather than going without the internet for three to four weeks while you wait for your new connection, your switchover will be seamless – with little or no downtime, no need for an engineer to visit and you could even save on connection fees.

How do I get one? - The handing out of MAC codes used to be discretionary, but this was deemed a restrictive practice by Ofcom. They have since introduced new legislation so that all ADSL ISPs must now provide customers with a MAC code when requested.

I already knew what a MAC was. :p Thanks anyway, wasn't 100% sure it was necessary for ISPs to hand them out when we ask so that does help me. :)

As said above, you will have to contact BT for a MAC code.

I phoned Pipex up and they are sending one through the post. Once I have that Im going to give it to Be. You can sign up for Be services over the net without a MAC code. You just fill it in once you get it then they finally process your order.

As we pay Pipex at the start of the month we have internet access for this month so they would'nt cut us off untill we finally move over. Once I get the shout from Be then Pipex will be told and the switch should work nicely.

You will love Be* it’s just a shame I wasn’t closer to the exchange so I could get more out of my line. There online ticket help is great for queries as they get answered very quickly, you also get various emails with area downtimes etc Be* actually care about the customers unlike most ISPs :D

So I could start an order with Be tonight but it would stop at some stage until I gave them a MAC?

Sure I will. :p How far from your exchange are you? The straight line distance between my postcode and the exhance is 543 metres. :D What sort of download and upload speeds are you getting?

Well my attenuation is 36 so quite far way really, last time I checked it up it was around the 2km mark, which is funny as I live closer to a different exchange to the one I’m on :( I sync around the 13,000kbps mark and upload is 1,300kbps so the speed isn’t too bad I suppose :D The best bit is no slowdowns or caps! You being close should get very fast speeds :)

We get 6.5Mbps atm. Does that mean we will get close to the 24Mbps Be offer? Or is it impossible to tell. Be uses ADSL2+ yes?
