petrol prices

Yes, but the yanks get to keep more of their money than we do.

Energize is right you cannot compare day to day fuel running costs across currency’s.

I await the day of stability in the middle east, drop in demand from America and the developing world and with it the return of $50 a barrel  :D

How do people in the UK earn more?

GDP per capita...

US $46,000
UK $35,300

Fuel IS very significantly cheaper for Americans whichever way you measure it. This is because the fuel duty there is much lower.

Yet the US minimum wage in $ is pretty much what the UK is in £.

Not as many movie stars over here i guess to drive up their earnings, also GDP doesnt have much of a reflection on the average wage of a typical worker. a lot of the UK is based on service industry which do not really add to the domestic produce.

Problem is that many of us simply can't do anything. I need my car for work, it's an efficient little beast but still needs filled up weekly. I simply couldn't do my job without my car, I use it all day, every day and it's not possible for me to avoid it by using public transport.

Petrol here shot up 3p overnight from 106p to 109p and diesel (so glad I dont have one now) went from 116p to 121p at the same time. I still can't get over how quickly the gap between the two fuel types is widening.

Fact is if we boycott petrol stations for a week, we'll just end up in there filling up afterwards.

Yes, but the yanks get to keep more of their money than we do.

Not at the low end of the earnings scale, americans have to pay at least 10% on all taxable income whereas we get an allowance of £5.4k, meaning americans earning less than ~$15k are actually paying more income tax then us. Plus they have to pay for health insurance, which they may never recieve due to the insurance companies screwing them over.

And then you have the uk benefit system which just hands out money to anyone, and pays kids to go to school. :p

Being disabled I can't really get anywhere without my car.
I do ride a bike but use a special leg to ride it which means I can't walk on it very well so using the bike to get me anywhere is pointless.
Got turned down for disability benefit once, time to try again i guess to offset the cost of fuel.

Cheapest I have seen is just under a grand.

Don't go for the cheapest install price if the guy isn't an approved installer.
If he's not approved, the fitment certificate he gives you (if at all) will count for precisely nothing...and that's when you start having insurance problems getting your car covered.

The opinion in the industry at the moment is it will keep rising (although at what rate nobody is sure) and won't stop/slip back until late june/early july.

A good point that can be applied to so many people in our society and virtually every web forum I have ever seen. Wise words.

He's definitely a pretty switched on guy, especially as this is a topic he's particularly well informed about. I think it's easy to react without scratching below the surface to find what may be the actual root cause of the problem, and when we have media such as ours who are constantly attacking the establishment regardless of the colour of their flag, then unfortunately the majority are going to follow these pied pipers of newsprint and their opinions.

I was thinking about you earlier, and have decided that you are the perfect type of guy to buy a car from. You don't skimp on anything, you do everything properly and you're a cleaning demon. You also take the time to actually choose the right car in the first place, which being a BMW owner I'm sure you're aware what happens when you pick the WRONG car.
