Gaming surfaces - Are they good?

I had an Icemat V2 but I couldnt get used to the glass on my wrist so I changed it for a Steelpad qck heavy:

bit small ???
It's massive, at least 4x the amount of space I use for my mouse.
What do u use? 0.1 sensitivity out of 10 ?

Yea tiny :o I bought a ratpadz (from ocuk!) years ago because the wireless mouse I had, needed less friction. A modern one wouldnt need that so much but it was a good buy anyway
It might be worth trying just a tray covered in a teflon oven baking mat if you want it cheap :D

My pad texture has worn smooth so every now and again I have to sandpaper it down or it just dont feel right, bizarre but I aint buying another when its basically fine.

Imo gaming surfaces are gay, nothing but trouble, taking way too much space ( more than you need for your mouse if you're a high sens. player like me) and annoying you when it falls or you cant push it away due to ( again) taking too much space.

Space and moneywaster imo unless you don't have a smooth surface for your mouse ( some desks...) or your hand hurts from taking the wrong arm/hand position when using the mouse ( then one with gel would be useful).

Akaik that's all there is to them imo, useless, geeky and no difference compared to smooth desk. Dumped mice mats ages ago and will never go back as I know how highly they annoyed me back in the old days.

EIT: No offence to mouse mat fans, I just dislike em A lot.

hmf, mice increase wear and tear on desks though, aswell as this some of us have glass desks which is a nono for our mice so we need mats.
Iv got a funcmat, had it about5-6yrs now, isnt a super big one like these new gaming surfaces but does me well, has a little thing on it to stick cord in so that you dont get any resistance from that.
We dont use mats at uni and god it gets frustrating, they dont half increase productivity.

Did have an everglide but it warped after 6 months for no reason at all.

Now using my DIY job, cut a piece of wood and smoothed the edges then covered it with a teflon flexible baking sheet and added some non slip pads to the bottom.

Works like a charm and has lasted twice as long as the everglide with no noticable drop in gaming performance (was crap and still crap :D)

Woo. This is exactly what I used to use :D The ones I made were fairly decent too. The only problem I had with them was they had more of a tendency to get a little 'tacky' if your hand was sweating in a tense gaming moment / in the middle of that insane summer two years ago.

I used to have an icemat but the glass became worn out in the end.

Gaming surfaces can be used more than just for gaming. I have a razer pro mouse mat and work and a razer destructor at home. Much better than the mousemats that the system builders give you!

Mine's years old and still looks like new!

£3 teflon baking sheet from Sainsburys... :D Better than any mouse mat I've tried.

Running a Logitech MX1000 and MX Revolution on it.

As way of an experiment, was thinking of stealing an aluminium clip board (foolscap size) from work and trying that... not a fan of the huge pads.

Had the exactmat for about 2 years.

Unfortunately I use the speed side adn that has pretty much worn off completely now. Noticable effect on my gaming, will have to replace it soon. But I wil get anotehr exactmat ;)

Its a shame but the quality of that side is not that good for long term gaming. However when the coating is tehre it is probably the best out there atm.
