2008 Spanish GP - Race 4/18

Did anyone catch Brundle driving a Maserati 250F around Silverstone just before the race ?

Good god I nearly wet myself :o

The segment was great but too short IMO. I hope they review the cars more thoroughly in the future. Like close ups of all the mechanicals, engine etc. Looking forward to seeing the review of the two Lotus F1 cars...

Was funny seeing the 250F cocking a wheel :D You'd have thought back then they were better than that. But then I suppose that is one of the things that the Lotus cars ultimately contributed to F1.

Yeah, was surprised to see that. I'll need to go back and check some of the original 50s footage because I don't remember ever seeing one do that for real.

Nick gets the insane stop-go penalty

All I have to say on the race really, until this rule gets cleared up and we dont see teams/drivers absolutely raped because they need fuel then F1 can only be seen as a farce.

You can have all the top class equipment, the best designs, amazing engineers and great drivers, but when you've got clowns writing the rules, you're a joke.

The fact they all know this place like the back of their hand doesnt change the fact that overtaing is impossible. Its the tracks fault, not how many laps they have done (it annoyed me when the ITV covereage kept labouring that point as the reason).

Its not the tracks fault anymore than any other circuit. If they could follow closely going into the final bend there would be loads of over taking on the start finish straight.

I've seen many races at Barca and the support race be it F3000 or Gp2 always had loads of overtaking.

People always bang on about how good Spa is, but thats just as dull for overtaking, suzuka the same. Always used to be the bus stop at spa and the final chicane at suzuka. No one call follow close enough anymore.

Once the balance transfers more to mechanical grip from aero Barca will give some great action. The ironic thing is F1 is just heading back to where JV said it should be in 97. Everything he complained about with aero grip and grooved tyres proved to be true. He got his knuckles rapped and was correct. He should take Max's job ;)

Did he say they should implement a rule to punish drivers for not crashing when a safety car comes out? If not then he doesn't have what it takes to take Max's job... ;)

I have an unhealthy amount of rage about the current rules, in my eyes they are taking away from the championship fight.

Finally saw the race as I recorded it this weekend and I finsihed watching the race well within an hour due to me not resisting to press fast forward, what a boring race once again.

Noooooo. :(
I love Super Aguri, they show what such a small team can do. They easily put the most amount of effort to stay alive and now it shall end like this. :(
Huh?!? Id give that honour to teams like Jordan or Arrows. They showed real grit when times were hard and didnt have someone like Honda to bail them out.

Super Aguri from the off just look like a team who wouldnt survive, the new regulations signed that death certificate and somehow they amazingly got into massive debt in a very short time...

"With our partners, the offer is not only about rescuing the team, but about constructing a future for the Super Aguri F1 team and Takuma Sato.
Haha love that oxymoron :p

Woah there!

Arrows?

Arrows?

You might say that they 'showed grit' in their early days (as an example - having to come up with an entirely new car design in 90 days after Shadow complained, quite rightly, that they'd copied their car). But they were fairly settled after that, definitely secure in the Footwork era despite being rubbish (and making a reasonable attempt to kill Derek Warwick at Monza in 1990). And under Tom Walkinshaw they had enough money to begin with to secure the services of the current world champion! They just didn't spend their money wisely at all - they chopped and changed their designers, they sacked the drivers who were actually quite good, and they made other very questionable business decisions behind the scenes (Prince Malik? Morgan Grenfell?)

F1 Rejects analysed the TWR era at Arrows. The article is here. I reckon that they're spot-on.

I did think I was going a bit too far including Arrows - but hey, they survived in the sport a considerably time longer than Super Aguri (who havent gone yet :p) - I think that was my very simplified point...
