omega seamaster 2220.80.00

What's the point though, might as well buy a similar looking Vostok or Tissot than bother buying something that is trying to be something it isn't.
I guess if you like the design then you can buy an exact copy that looks exactly like the original, one could say you are buying a copy of the design rather than tha brand.

one of these? looks nice.

one of my friend's looks like this... I don't like it very much, it looks cheap for an expensive watch.

I own the 2531.80.00, its no longer available to buy new, but you can pick them up second hand for about £600.

They are non-co axial movements, which many people prefer to the new ones. They also have a cleaner face.

They will be the classic in years to come, and I would buy nothing else, especially given how much you save...

The inferior movement will be a classic for years to come? Many people prefer the older movement? That sounds like someone trying to justify their acquisition!

Inferior is not really the right word. The Omega caliber 1120 is easier (and therefore cheaper) to service than its co-axial equvilent. Both are basically ETA 2892 movements, which have been around since the 1980s, with a couple of extra jewels, some finishing. In the case of the co-axial version, it also has a new escapement. Both will out live you or I with proper care.

How much better is the co-axial over the quartz

infinitely, one is a well crafted mechanical movement, the other a semi generic piece of electronics

well actually it depends on your definition of "better" , the quartz will be more accurate but ( in in percentage terms ) depreciate more and you will always be left with the feeling that you haven't bought a "proper" watch

Thought that would be the case. I've noticed they do a slightly smaller "bond" watch (my wrists aren't very big :( )

I think if I go for it it'll be the Co-axial Automatic one

Check it out first, it is very small by current standards, about 36mm iirc

with used ones be awat that the older ones fdo not have the co axial movement, though the movement they have is still very good and prices cheaper

with Seamasters used prices are very high and often a new one will cost little more, 15-20% off of RRP is easy to get

the independent official dealers will normally do better deals that the ones that are part of a big chain

I agree, but I'll be able to have a look after work as they have a store in west Quay open till 8pm on Thursday nights

there is being blunt and then there is being rude..

Anyway I'll have a look on Thursday at what is about in Southampton I can also find out the size of my current Seiko
