All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

I'd like to see him back at Arsenal just as much as I'd like to see RvN back at Man.U. Both of them are still good players but neither of them will recapture that special place they were in:)

Would like to see Michael Johnson from City replace him, a combative box to box midfielder, with bags of energy, and an attacking instinct.

Whether or not Arsene shares these views is yet to be seen though ;)

Yep MJ is great from what I saw of him last year. He reminds me a bit of Frank Lampard Jr. However with MC being awash with cash I suspect, like Richards (another player I covet), he'd be overpriced.

Flamini leaving in itself isn't that big of a problem, assuming Gilberto stays. Diaby will hopefully be injury free over the summer and be ready to take his place alongside Cesc in the middle.

The loss of Hleb would be more concerning as he has been one of our most creative talents this season, and in recent years there has been a mass exodus of wide players (Pires, Ljungberg, Quincy, Reyes, Bentley etc etc). Rosicky tends to miss quite a few games and we need more cover on the left wing, unless Gibbs is ready to step up to the plate - he looked very promising in pre-season last year. I suppose the other option is Traore, who looked arguably more comfortable playing LW than LB when I saw him in the reserves.

Rumours that we're after Abidal are starting to gather a bit of pace. We definantly need a lb with Aurelio's constant injury problems and he's undoubtedly a decent player but he was alarmingly poor at OT the other week (was decent at the Nou Camp though).

Johnson's potentially a great player, already being compared with a young Gerrard. Good all-round midfielder and excellent on the ball, would much rather we went for him than Barry.

As for his price, it was strongly rumoured that a swap deal with Crouch had been agreed for January but fell through because he got injured, so i'd imagine he'd be available for ~£10m.

I don't think there will be massive changes. I'd be suprised if we signed more than 5 first team players and that's on the basis that both Crouch and Alonso leave.

I think it's safe to say he'll be there regardless the ownership situation. Whoever's in charge will want the fans on side and know that keeping (and backing) Benitez is the only way.

The owners will want him, but what about his own desires?

Work for two idiots who restrict his ability and cause him no end of headaches or go somewhere with hassle free intervention from the owners and a blank cheque book.....

I know which one I would choose

Good as gone:
Pennant
Crouch
Riise
Voronin

Very possible:
Alonso
Carson
Itandje

With the exception of Carson, they'll all need replacing.

We'll sign a rb, lb, cm, winger and a striker and possibly a keeper if they both go.

Hopefully the 2 idiots will be gone soon and he won't walk away from a £6m pay-off either, not to mention his family are believed to be settled there.

The bid for Barry shows he's planning for next season.

He seems to be planning for next season already, which says to me that he's happy and is going nowhere.

I agree Abidal is crap, not in the same league as Clichy and Evra.

In a way I'm glad that Flamini has left Arsenal. It might sound daft but in a way now I think Wenger has to go out and buy a top class CM replacement. As people have said previously I think Barry would be a superb signing for Arsenal and I personally think he'd team up well with Cesc.

I just hope he actually buys the 3-4 players they need that could get them into the trophies next year.

On the topic of best left back in the world, Clichy just shades it over Evra for me.

When Cole was at Arsenal I'd have said he was the best, but since he went to Chelsea I think he's been relatively poor. Even outshone by Wayne Bridge for me at times.
