Pendulum - Guitar without strings?

Just seen the Pendulum set at the Radio 1 Big Weekend. Clip here:


Does anybody know that the guitar thing the lead singer is playing? It has strings, but he doesnt use them, it appears to have a button for each point along the neck you would normaly hold for a note, that he then plays as a king of synthesiser/keyboard hybrid. Its cool, but does anybody know what it is?

Are the strings functional in any way? Or merely there to look cool? He never touches them throughout the entire set.
 
Would you not actually die to be a security guard there?

Or even be there!!!!!

I have, however, just realised that Pendulum are playing at this years Projeckt Revolution tour which will for the first time have a date in the UK.... Looks very very temptin.
 
I saw Pendulum on Friday night at Leeds uni. It was an over 14s gig, which was too young, there were too many sweating idiots, bouncing and moshing to fight with, was fun for a bit but that didn't last.

They only played 'Hold Your Colour' for an encore; which wasn't done that well, which is a shame 'cos it's one of my favourites, but they stormed 'Blood Sugar' and some others from HYC.

Good gig, just ruined by these nu-rave kids.

They played at Plymouth Uni a few years back, meaning only Students, so we didnt have the stupid fighting kids. Was an epic night, room full of energy. Did manage to stand in line for a burger after and literally ring out our t shirts though....
 
he might even be triggering samples and sounds etc with it

last time i seen them it was 14+ . horrible horrible crowd

theyre up here on bank holiday weekend and its 18+ so should be loads better.
 
Haha I watched this last night and was like "cooooooooooooool". But yeah it had strings but the fret board was almost like a keyboard.

Will see them at Download :D
 
Ye must say looked quite impressive. Projeckt Revolution tour im going to since its just down the road from where i live :D
