Students...all ****ers?

A year work experience isn't quite what I was talking about.

So why not expand on what you were talking about?

Many students work part time whilst at Uni - and often have less completely free time than you guys who shut off and do what you like come 5pm.

I have never paid rent, I moved out of my house as soon as I could, staying with mates and such. This continued at uni, don't think I didn't pay my way and do favours. And after uni I still stayed with mates til I could afford a mortgage age 22 with my missus I moved into my current house.

no offence okay but unless things have changed drastically since i was at uni Students (esp 1st + 2nd yr) have a TON of free time.*

e.g. heres an example of my timetable.

9am lecture
10am lecture
11 free hour
12 free hour
1pm lecture/tutorial
2pm lecture or tutorial
3pm free time
4pm free time

and on wednesdays and fridays there was usually only 2 lectures in the morning and the rest of the time is yours to do as you wish.

Not forgetting that a lot of the time it wasnt mandatory to attend lectures as you could quite easily just grab notes from a m8.

*unless of course your doing an insanely demanding degree like medicine or smt.

I think infact there is some sort of jealousy with the lives student live in the sense that it is a stepping stone to adult life but still peppered with carefree adolesence. I mean, unless you're working in your "dream career", I'd probably hate grinding out the hours just to pay for a roof over my head too.

But let's face it - not every student has it easy. Maybe the majority. But with every stereotype there are those that are the complete opposite and are probably more hard working and "responsible" than any of you "grown up adults".

Simply put if every student was a role model, I can imagine their life to be utterly boring. Let them have their fun because once it's over they have to join you in the boring world.

When I was at uni I saw the cliched student ***nkers everywhere, now I own a student house and have found that the students have been exceptional every year.

I am aware of a lot of courses like this at my university however, to offer contrast, my architecture course averages around 35hours in lecture and studio time a week, and then all the work we have to produce each day out of studio.

So no, not all students are lazy - My take is that you will meet ******* wherever and whatever you do! but you will also find the good eggs too - the issue being that the good eggs dont often get as much attention drawn to them ;)

a lot of students are idiots to be sure, but assuming all of us are just because some of us are seems a pretty immature view to me anyway.

Students are still in education, they're not ment to be fully developed and mature. Infact the majority of students bodies are still maturing throughout university too.

Even the good ones were only tolerable, rather than decent.
Pretty narrowminded view isn't it? Or are you assuming you've met every "good one" from every university? You'll also notice considerable difference in how people are from university to university depending on where it is.Theres a huge amount of cultural variation even among residence's.

If every time you speak to a student your thinking "oh god, another damn student", its going to shine through, and influence the way they actually act with you.

99% of students are horrificly inconsiderate though, some of the things other students do appaul me. The worst thing is that the excuse tends to be "i was drunk". I think people should really consider that as further incrimination rather than an excuse.

I loved being a student, I had a lot of fun but didn't learn a great deal. My choice, i didn't work. I was definitely of the cliched, lazy, drunken/messy, shagging around type and enjoyed every minute. I don't regret it, I have the career i want but you have to be bright to get away with blowing it off and nobody wants to employ a spod with a 1st. The adult me would not comprehend the person i was at 18-20 something and would think i was a w***** which i probably was.

I worked with students years ago & I can confidently say I'd rather have my tongue beaten wafer thin with a steak hammer than work with them again.

I'm probably more productive than half the people that work full time:p Workers that are complaining in this thread are just jealous they aren't at uni anymore (or never had that experience), simple as.

im fairly sure theyr complaining because students are messy, obnoxious, arrogant and loud.

As a student I confirm this, most students in the public eye are like this.

Exactly the kind of reply I'd expect from the type of person I described in the OP.

"You're life isn't as good as mine, you're just jealous!"

Grow up.

I'm coming to the end of my first year at uni and in halls. I cant stand two of my flat mates. One makes a mess in the kitchen, and eats in her room, and therefore thinks she doesnt have to clean it up. She cooked something in the microwave that left a right mess in there so i stuck a note to it. she left today and none of us are going to clean it, i'd rather pay the fine.

Another one left his pan out so long whatever was in it actually grew a 'skin'. Stupidley i disturbed it and the most foul smell came out. The pan's sat on the kitchen floor a meter in from the door with a note asking the cretin to sort it out.

you may think me leaving notes is immature, but i havent seen them for days and cba with a confrontation. Its basic hygene, people are too wrapped up in cotton wool to learn these simple skills before they come to uni.

Im only 19 myself, but am quite capable of cooking, cleaning and generally looking after myself. I think its 50/50 some are whatever that starred word is, others arent! The majority of the people you dislike will end up resitting this year due to their own laziness.

OK, I'll bite.

There is a certain amount of irony with you telling other people to 'grow up' when you have started a thread to throw your dolly out the pram with regards to students. I'm sorry that your student time wasn't up to your expectations, and that you had to live with people who were below you. That must have been hard.

Maybe, just maybe, you're not so perfect yourself? I think it is a certain amount of jealousy on your part. Did you fail and are blaming your house mates for it? Did you not get on with them because they didn't want to sit around playing WoW (or equivalent) all day long and you did? Did they make the most of their experience and now you're looking back with resentment that you didn't? Didn't they like you for being a weeaboo? ;) Something must have happened to make you have this much hatred.

Maybe it's time to let go of this resentment and remember the phrase 'live and let live'? Students, and their associated traits (which are completely inaccurate and ill-founded - you get 'inconsiderate', 'selfish' and 'immature people in all walks of life) aren't going anywhere. You're going to have to deal with this pent up aggression someday. It shocks me that you have this much disdain yet have managed to live with twenty students, and not once thought 'you know what, I don't get on with these student types, I'll not live with them' but hey, you wouldn't be able to moan about them otherwise, would you?

*feels dirty for taking the bait*

If you can't do me the courtesy of a reply I have no choice but to assume my original point was correct.

Assume away if you like.

But if I answer that then the thread will descend into people nit-picking my posts, which is only likely to lead to petty arguing. And anyway, I don't really think it needs further explanation.

I think its quite clear you can't really make your mind up what your point is. First students have no life experience, then you get reminded (As its quite clear University isnt something you know much about) that actually most leave with real world experience as well and... well, you can't reply..
