Any reason to avoid this? going to look at/possibly buy on Saturday

The Ford Puma also used the IB5 a car which you have agreed is a decent car in the past I'm sure.

I guess this is crap now?

The one a mate of mine has is crap. Rusting, unreliable, and not as world-beatingly amazing to drive as certain motoring journos made it out to be in the past. And I drive some pretty awful cars, so my standards are really low....

Ref the OPs initial query, for the dosh that looks pretty good.
Nope I wouldn't have dreamt of buying one at full price, but that's clearly suffered from depreciation freefall from 10,000 feet.
I seem to remember them getting rather good road tests when new, so I'm guessing it's even a decent drive. Not sure what I'd recommend at a similar price.

I agree with this - apart from i doubt you'd be able to get an Accord Type-R for 2.5k. They're pretty much 4-5k territory.

Nothing really stands out as being wrong in the advert, but then again it is pretty much just a generic advert that doesn't go into specifics. I think it looks nice - and i even like the car! I'm not sure about the reliability on these, but people are saying they suffer from HGF? You should ask the guy if the HG has ever been replaced. I mean that is a good car for 2.5k. Sure, if it was me i probably would have a Mondy v6, but AFAIK the ZS is by no means a bad car.

My top tip of the day would be don't go there expecting to drive the car away. Go there and expect there to be something wrong with it - then you'll be on the look out for something to be wrong and you won't be as disappointed if there is something wrong with it.

Yes but cars which feature the IB5 are hardly crap Fords simply not true, maybe in your world where if something doesnt provide over 150BHP of power it's automatically crap and you just posted that to provoke some sort of reaction?.

Seems like a load of crap to me. The gearbox may be crap this I completely agree with but this does not make the car carrying the box crap.

The Fiesta ST150 uses the IB5 I take it this car is now crap in your world?

Well he does raise a valid point - the Focus is a nice little car, but it's only a nice little car 'cause it's so god damn cheap. Your patriotism is lovely and all (I've got a Focus as well), but for a car that was never expensive in the first place, and was never built to be a fantastic executive/sporty/well built vehicle :]

It really is a shopping trolley :p

Ive never had it pop out of gear before, the gears seem really smooth and positive. I do however have the reverse gear problem, just have to make sure its gone into gear, not really a problem at all.

The reverse gear problem isn't a problem at all! It simply doesn't have a syncro. It took me about 3 crunchy reverse attempts to realise that if you feel it not going in properly, simply keep applying gentle pressure in the direction of reverse on the gear stick as you bring the clutch up. The instant it reaches the bite point it would "pop" into reverse as the gears matched with no drama or crunching. So just keep your hand on the stick for a second or two longer :p

I would not buy this MG with this little MOT on it. Ask yourself why it only has 2 months MOT left, when having a full MOT is a string selling point and only costs £45.

I don't like em but it is cheap.

It's definately good value but the only MG I'd touch is the ZT at least they started with a half decent car and if you get the one without the spoiler it's a little more subtle. If it wasn't for the crazy fuel consumption I would have picked one up last year but I just couldn't justify the running cost!

Tom just asked me the exact same thing lol. My instructor had a 2005 Fiesta...the gearbox was crap, the engine was pants, in general just a horrible car.

Gearbox feels crap at first but when you get used to it it's brilliant. And also it is rock solid hence why it's a bit clunky.

I've never known a gearbox to fail out of everyone I know. And that's a lot of Fords! :)

My Clio 172 had 7 days left on the MOT. I simply hadn't had the time to get it MOT'ed.

I'd perhaps make the car passing the MOT a condition of the sale though!

Thanks for all the advice people :)

I've hpi'd it and it's clear, looks spot on to be honest.
