All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

Yeah Keane wants Evans to stay at Sunderland.

If we buy a new right-back this summer, then we'll have Brown and O'Shea to cover centre-back. Hardly world-class cover, but they're no worse than Pique.

well you can'y really have someone too hot really as they'll want more games than they're going to get realistically. they're only looking at playing 15-20ish games a season barring a major injury. if we get a rb then i could live with brown and o'shea as back up, would quite like to see us bring in another youngster or so though.

Zaragoza were relegated tonight, so Milito, Aimar and Ayala amongst others will probably leave.

Edit- Sergio Garcia as well, he's just been named in the Spain squad for Euro 2008. Just noticed as well Ayala is 35! Didn't think he was that old, maybe he'll just retire.

Edit 2- Zapater as well, he was apparently linked with Arsenal and Liverpool.

Wouldn't be too sad to see Pique go. He's ok but nothing special.
Wes Brown should be a simple replacement for him as backup next season, if a new/very old right back comes into the team and he is a better player than Pique from what little I've seen.
However the timing seems odd. Why keep him for a season and not use him. Apparently £8m was offered before but now its less money and the guys wasted a year. Seems silly. Sure he provided cover but when the likes of Vidic were out SAF didn't seem to have any faith in him.

re: Saha, it was quite sad to read his recent quotes about how much he wants to stay and is hoping to make an impact coming off the bench. I actually started to warm to him. But true to form, the word is he wont be traveling to Moscow due to..injury.

Agreed.

I suspect our line up next season won't be too far away from this:

Hart
Hutton Woodgate Rocha Gilberto
Lennon Jenas Modric Bale
Eto'o Keane

Apparently, Levy is in Barca today to make a formal offer for Eto'o.
I suspect our team next season won't look much like that tbh :p ;)

Hart? hmm...

Rocha?? lol are you serious? King will be number 1 but we can't be sure about his injury. Dunn seems keen to join us? I'm not so keen on him though.

Eto'o? I really don't think so. Berbatov is a million times more likely to stay!!

???
Hutton Woodgate King Bale
Lennon Jenas/Huddlestone ??? Modric
??? Keane

We'll definately buy a couple of keepers and maybe an out and out LB. A new CB as cover for King/Woodgate will also be bought, with Rocha & Kaboul being shown the exit door.

Our number one priority is a CM hard man who can protect our defence... we're crying out for a Roy Keane. Jenas and Huddlestone are too soft together so it's one or the other plus a new signing. The fact Modric is a lightweight makes this even more glaringly obvious?? Modric I fancy in a free role in certain games behind the front two... especially if that weapon is removed with Berba leaving.

As for strikers, I've no idea but I do know it won't be Eto'o.... or Berbatov :(

We didnt see what went on in training obviously but the Carling Cup result was supposedly blamed on him due to bad defending as well as THAT Anelka goal (against Bolton)

Maybe opprtunity wasnt quite there - but £6m is a good price I would say not too sorry to see him go, with Evans going as well (which I am sad about seeing but he didnt seem upto our team either) At least one full back is necessary as well as a Striker

Saha is injured again? Thought he was fully fit (not match fit obviously) for the final - ohh well no surprise really

Do you really think a strong holding midfielder type would suit spurs? Sure carrick was good for you but even still he's not really exactly the type of player we're on about here, more of a distributor and not as good on the defensive side. I think an out and out defensive midfielder like mascherno or something would be completely disillusioned as generally they rely on defensive support play, something which i think spurs are dire at. I.E. a player like this would be left too isolated and therefore lose their impact in such an attacking team like spurs. I think the best would probably be a spanish type DM/CM like alonso or something, used as a linkup for counters

A few reports going around that Carson to Villa is getting closer, costing another £6m bringing the fee to £8m. Not bad for £700k from Leeds :)

This is a rumour that stinks to high heaven but thought it was worth posting for a laugh....

Wenger is said to want Saha for £5m

I cant see it happening for many reasons.......

Only reason I can think of is him injuring himself on the way to signing the contract or in the fitness test.

I didn't realise Rijkaard was definitely leaving Barca either. New Chelsea manager?

I also read today that Roberto Mancini has been claiming he will be taking over at Chelsea and that Grant will step down regardless of the result on Wednesday. Sorry if this has already been mentioned.
