Trackmania Nation Forever

Anyone know someone that's in the top 10 in the world? Or even top 100 for that matter!
You can't really read too much into the rankings, as it is highly dependent on the amount of time you play. It is also highly dependent on the type of games you are playing; if you are playing on booster "lol maps" servers, then you will gain many more points than playing on servers that actually need skill, where the better players tend to come out ahead.

I prefer playing regularly on one server to get some of the best times, and get a good rank on that particular server

Edit: If you like it, it's well worth spending a fiver on the full game, Trackmania United. If you're quick you should still be able to pick it up for a fiver from a couple of online shops. Don't bother paying £25/30 for the Forever version though, you can patch up to that. You get a lot more game for that £5, one of the big bargains at the moment, imo.

Can someone please explain how it's possible to get the game for £5?
Is it totally equivalent to buying the $40 from steam?

YOu buy trackmania united from the high street not the forever version, and then get the free patch to upgrade it to the forever version

OK, to get the game for a fiver what you need to do is buy Trackmania United from a well known high street store (competitor so can't mention which one it is, but there's not many to choose from).

Then you upgrade that using Trackmania United Forever - it'll prompt you to download the update when you launch it in any case, as it recognises there's a newer version released.

It's really not worth buying the retail version of Trackmania United Forever for £30 because you get exactly the same thing by buying Trackmania United and upgrading it.

edit: d'oh, too slow.... what Ross1234 said ;)

Yes it is. All you need to do is find Trackmania United (not Trackmania United Forever) on the net somewhere for a fiver. Buy it and install it. It'll then want to update itself - I think it directs you to a link to download the 'Forever' part for free, which you then install et voila - Trackmania United Forever, the same as the Steam version.

edit - doubly too slow

Totally can't find this for a fiver... I fail... :(

:p
There's only about 5 places it could be!
<insert epic fail pic>

Apparently if you buy TMU, it installs starforce, then TMUF upgrade attempts to remove it. Has anyone had any issues with SF? (buying the full TMUF all-in-one doesn't contain SF according to wiki)

ok is there any where to get cars and such which you dont have to use copper for?

only just go the full game, so only have 50copper at the moment?

How do you earn more and such?

i got 800+ now just from loggin in every day, and doing "official mode"
i couldnt work out how to get "official mode" for ages!!! lol

u need to goto solo, lets say Nations, then race or platform , do a trail race, till u think youve mastered it, then hit esc, click on official mode,
5 coppers for bronze
10 for silver
15 for gold
20 if u exceed the one u cant see (ive done this and u get an extra medal!)

Are these coppers essential to do well? or just for buying cosmetic stuff?
Are the "cars" just models, like you can get from TMcarpark? or are they faster?

Coppers are used for a variety of things. You use up a certain amount building tracks (though most people will have enough to build whatever they want within a couple of weeks). You spend some setting Official times if you don't get it right first time. And you can donate to them to mapmakers you like. But I don't pay any attention to how many coppers I have - as soon as I build up any great quantity, I just donate them to one of the lotteries on some servers. They're certainly not central to the game.
The cars are just models. There's no way of making your car faster than any other.

Finally got round to playing this online tonight. So far so good. But I have a question for the TM experts.

I was on a server which was running basically the short tracks from the single player mode, and there were 28 people playing at a time. At the start, all 28"shadow" cars were in view within seconds, meaning i could not see my car or where i was going. On the longer tracks, things got spread out, but on the shorter tracks, this made it unplayable at times. In the options, I have selected the "hide too close" option, but it does not seem to make a difference. Is this just how it is, or am I missing something simple. I have TM United (Forever now), and the manual does not really help as regards the options. Any ideas?

You need to adjust how close they become before they vanish.

Aww, come on. You got to give me more than that. :D

Unless I am blind, which is possible at this hour, I can`t see where I can adjust the distance. Which setting am I looking for? Is it in the configure menu before the game starts? Or is it in the game itself?

:)
