Someone nicks your parking space. Do you...

Me being childish.

Option one.
Get 3 mates to help you move it, place a note saying "this is my parking space, signed the hulk"

Option two.
Let his tyres down and note on the windscreen

Option three.
Write a note in his car paintwork using unpleasant substances.

a chat, with how much hostility would it be?

A normal person would just park in the guest bay and forget about it, and only start getting so annoyed about it when it happens the second time.

Agreed

maybe the person didnt realise? i've done it before when there was a mix of resident and public parking in a car park. i was lost and looking for a car parking space so popped into the nearest empty one.... even went and bought a ticket.... it weren't until i got back to a parking ticket 4 hours later i saw a sign furtehr up saying residents only on one side... :o

I've been there before! It's so nice paying for a ticket to park to find out you shouldn't be there and have received a parking fine as well!

Realistically i'd say very little hostility once he realises someone has made an honest mistake, which these situations often are.

But I concur, I would probably park in the guest bay and leave a note on their motor informing them of their mistake.

True - but you're assuming that someone turne up and went 'Sod it, i'll park in someone else's spot'. If they're unfamiliar with the area they may have made an innocent mistake.

The big number 16 on the floor makes it obvious it's not a visitor spot, and the state of their car only provides further evidence of their 'sod it' attitude, so it's not like a crazy assumption, there's stuff backing it up.

I guess im just someone who beleives in giving others the benefit of the doubt, especially when in this case its not that much of a hardship to park in a guest spot.

Please don't take this as keyboard warrior speak, but i don't like letting people take liberties with me or my stuff. It's another angle of the respect/consideration for others thing that I mentioned previously. So while it is indeed no hardship, why should I endure it, and have someone who thinks (or, before someone jumps down my throat for another assumption, 'appears to think') they can use other peoples stuff with no regard, continue as they please?

If I stole someone's parking space, I would prepare for a ruckus when returning to my car.
It's like parking on some random persons driveway, you don't have the right.

All depends on how big the driver that nicked your space was. :p

hahaha :D

also, this is an off road, gated car park, you don't even come in here unless you're visiting, so it's not like you'd even *expect* there to be any public spaces. anyone with a degree of brain power would check to see if there were, and which were which

anyway i'm liking the feedback from everyone, it's all appreciated

I shall reflect on all your multivarious opinions whilst I take a trip to asda for orange juice (alternate theory for anti-keyboard-warrior-ists: i'm going to drive real slow and hope they leave before i get back because i'm actually a big wet loser and that would resolve everything nicely)

Park in visitor spot but put a note on windscreen of other car advising that it is not a visitor spot.

If you got home and found somebody parked on your drive you'd be pretty angry, this is no different. Block them in and when they eventually come to the correct door, be polite and say you had no choice, they won't do it again.

I'd go with (and have done so with my private driveway twice now) get under it, cut the handbrake cable(s) and pull the ****ing thing out the way.

Job done. ;)
