The problem I find is actually catching the first one (ie 15th place) before the majority are out of reach
Not sure what to suggest then, I find it quite easy to overtake any car up to about 5th when they start to spread out a bit more. Sometimes 1st can be a bit too far out of reach, but I never finish lower than 2nd.
You've either got a dodgy setup that's making the car hard to drive or don't have enough power etc.
At first I could not get a good result on Fuji but after a while I learned the corners and now can take them much faster than the competition.
If you really can't get to 3rd just disable Professional Realism (can't remember what it's exactly called) or enable ASM/TCS and see if that helps you.

The first corner is the trickiest for breaking (being on a pad with little give in the button - tapping instead of pressing seems to be less effective in this car than in some others) cant add too much power without being over the limit and not being able to add enough weight or reduce aero enough
Professional setup was the first thing to "go" lol (maybe just shows how awful a driver I am lol)
Cant remember what my settings for ASM are, I think its off - TCS I usually leave at 1, will try it a few different values to see if it makes a difference

I would not enable traction control, I am slower with it on as my driving style is to be aggressive out of corners and traction control kills that, I do have ASM on sometimes with high powered cars.
What you also can do is disable autosaving, buy a new car, try to see if you can win, if not stop the game and when you start it again you will have the money again and autosave will be on again, that way you can test a car before buying.
been doing the C class since i bought this great game 
got my flatmate to finish c class (last FF race a tad difficult for me coz i suck basically) and to do some of B class.
ive found if i turn off traction control then im skidding all over the place and lose control much much quicker (ie car sensitivity to turns is more fragile)
those mountains look ace though

I've got 1 race left in B and then onto A.. Got a Dodge Viper SRT10 and an Evo IX atm
What do people think about playing this online. There seems to be a lot of morons playing this online. The number of races that get scrapped half way thorugh spoils it for me. It looks like too many people disconnect if the races are not going their way and one of them is usually the host and the race is stopped. I have never experienced this with other games online and find it very frustrating.
I've only had that happen once, though being fair I've not played a huge amount online. Have to say that it does confuse me. Even if you come last, you still get some credits, so why throw it away?
At the moment I'm still acruing dosh for the Ferrari F40, so haven't progressed past Intermediate online. Most people seem fairly reasonable...so far.
Not yet, but a patch has been promised sometime this year that will allow private servers etc etc. ATM GT5
multiplayer feels very much like a Beta, i never expected it to be any good but at least it's getting patched up to match what will be offered in the full game so i can get a good idea of what to expect.Visible and performance affecting damage is also expected some time this year which is nice.
As a side note, i've gotten back into this and finally unlocked S-Class, however i don't have a clue how to tune etc so could someone possibly post what cars they use and if they're feeling REALLY helpful, their tuning settings.

Everyone I have ever played, you ALWAYS get people like that.
One thing I love about xbox live is you can effectively block them so you dont end up in a game with them again.

Ive practically given up on GT5p
Completed all the Class C, B , A and ...Professional? races (a few bronzes but either way all of them complete) - still cant get into some Dealership races though which is really annoying me
There are about 10 makes which I dont have access to - from performance cars all the way to Citreon!!!
Even bought a Jag (hoping to open up the equiv race) but it remained greyed out
Have around 500,000 credits but bored of all the races I have got through so far
I guess I can buy a cheap citreon and race it in class c - but Im not sure which type of citreon the race will involve (as its greyed out it wont tell me) so I dont want to waste the money - and even if I win a race with it , doesnt mean the dealership race will become available
(Just wish the unlocking of these races was a little bit more obvious as to why/when they are unlocked)

You will be waiting a long time to unlock those Frank as they don't unlock.
Not all of the dealers have their own race events. The one's available from the start are the only ones available.
Onto the man topic I also find the online play a waste of time. There are some many things they could improve it with. I am just hoping they read the many online forums and take note of what people are after!

Are you sure? I know this isnt the full game but it seems stupid to indicate there are races to be unlocked and yet not actually have them (why not just have the buying icon and no race icon for those dealerships?)

I have finished All the events and most of the dealer races and their aren't anymore available for me.
