Vauxhall Astra Turbo opinions?

I have an 03 one of these in black, if you have any questions just ask.

Personally i wouldn't listen to anyone here, ive had mine for 2 years now and its been great, never missed a heartbeat, Although im probably going to get an S2000 within the next six months, can buy mine for 7k if you want, full service history and 17k miles on the clock ;) The Only issue ive ever had is second->third changing can be a bit sticky when cold, which is common on the gearboxes.

It costs peanuts to run as well, 300 quid a year fully comp for me and can do 35mpg if you dont drive like a muppet! I dont think id pay more than 5-6 for a typical condition one from autotrader at the moment though.

To get the astra to 250bhp seems to cost £1149 looking at the internet, to get the LCR to 265bhp costs just under £400.

Thats way out for the Astra. You can easily see 250BHP for less than £500.

I think the £1149 is if you goto one of the 'reputable' tuning compainies who like to charge you for the air you breath while waiting for the work to be done.

Regal stage 2, which includes an intercooler, looking at some dyno days most people who got a remap and filter without a new intercooler only got 330bhp?

The K04 on the LCR can flow upto 285bhp with just a remap, the GSI according to a dyno day is limited to 250-260bhp with a new intercooler then you need a new turbo.

Your barking mad! :p £7k will buy a tidy e36 M3 & leave spare funds in case anything breaks.

RWD, German build quality & no turbo lag - I know which I'd rather have. :)

I agree the M3/5 would be lovely but then you have the higer overall running costs and insurance. Not saying the Astra is by any means a perfect choice but depending on your yearly budget its a much cheaper option.

Sure, I agree, but as I said, the OP is spending enough money to buy a decent example and leave a fighting fund in the bank just in case.

Its a case of does he want a performance car or a pretend one? Not to mention, long term the M cars will hold on to their money better than an Astra I'd have thought.

Chalk & cheese tbh, they are not directly comparable, but fall into direct comparison simply due to the purchase cost if you see what I mean.

The e34 especially appeals to me, hand built (literally). :)

if it was my 7k i was spunking on a new car it would be on a LCR/CTR :)

Poor poor chassis on the astra gsi's cant handle the power it has let alone any more, it will tank in terms of residuals and their not THAT quick

go splurge 2 1/2k on a nova/corsa turbo if you want a silly bugger quick fwd car and spend 5 on a nice luxo barge for during the week :)

You provided good advice and an honest informed opinion from experiance, im talking about people who post LOL or "don't get one" without having probably even seen one let alone driven it.
