Dad sent me this... Scam or just confused?

Why would someone who is being sponsored by a church be coming over to attend a healthcare conference?

Just for giggles, can we have a photo of the suspect cheque?

I got the the bit "send the remaining through western union" and thought, yep, 100% scam.

This will be one of those things where the funds clear, your old man sends the remaining funds to them, then X weeks down the line the transferred funds are removed, probably down to a fake transfer order, or something.

Scort.

Scam.

Is there actually a legitimate use for them anymore?

Western Union is a good way to send cash to friends/family abroad. But you should only ever use it if you know the person you're sending it to, as it's very difficult to trace who picks up the money.

Tell him to rip up the cheque and don't send any money to anyone, no matter what they say. At the end of the day they're asking him to cash a dodgy cheque and send them the cash. I'm amazed people don't spot this right away.

the scam is it is a fake cheque/bankers draft and the cash goes into your dads account i.e £1000 and your dad pays out £500, then the bank realises it is a fake and takes the grand out of your dads account, leaving him £500 down.

They are after your mohonies. Obvious scam. if they can't speak proper enlish and ignored your requests for sponsor verification and details about this church conferences then dont bother, common sense boy!

Scam. No question.

Bad English. payment sent in advance. Apparently related to a church (to induce trust).

Scam, scam, scam. With more scam on top.

my thoughts exactly, as soon as they mentioned church, no one gives a reason for wanting to rent tbh
