acceptable age difference

No but i've met plenty of 16 year olds with the mental and emotional intelligence and maturity of an 8 year old?

Which i think is MUCH more relevant to their decision making and choices they will have to bare.

which is i think the point he was making yet you seem to be arguing with it by saying the same thing?

A 17 year old boy having a relationship with a 13 year old girl to me is not acceptable but his friends and the girls parents seem to think it is ,the girls mother has even been encouraging him to sleep overnight in her bedroom and they have only been together a few weeks !
mature responses only please !

Do people just not care any more that underage sex is illegal?

Is it no longer a cultural taboo? Have I missed something here?

Give the 17yo a slap and send him on his way. And one for the girl's mother, too.

The 13 year old girl has been bragging about not being a virgin and having had anal sex and keeps talking about babies !

And one for the little **** herself!

I don't really care when it comes to sex, given that other countries with much lower rates of teen pregnancies have lower ages of consent.

and her father. And the girl. along with a chasticy belt thing.

Its not a taboo anymore if both consenting partys are underage, or there isnt much of an age gap.
In some countries its legal for u16 to sleep with u18s, though if an 18+ slept with a u16 then thats classed as illegal, thats a slightly better system but lets face it, it doesnt get policed or anything.

What if it's a 13 year old that is as physically developed as the average say, 16 year old? What then?

It's still illegal. **** the physical development; **** the alleed mental development. It's still illegal.

No child of 13 is genuinely mature enough in his or her mind for a full sexual relationship.

The whole point of a legal age is to prevent immature people being taken advantage or to stop them making mistakes. Just stating that it's illegal isn't a justification at all.

The reason for a standardised age is to avoid the ensuing complications and objections that little Jane is mature enough to make the decision to go out and get trollied or get pregnant.

Not so sure about that myself. Perhaps not at 13, but a year or two later many certainly are. Conversely there are people who are well over 16 who irresponsible or immature and mentally handicapped adults but we don't make it illegal for to have sex....

Yeah i do find that bad, sickens me and i see it far too often. What is wrong with people, do they find it easier to hook up with a young naive dependant?

It seems that way ,his mate started a sexual relationship when he was 15 with a 13 year old and was sleeping at her house most nights with the parents permission ,he is now 16 ,she 14 and he has moved in with her .

I know when I was 17 my mates would have ripped into me if I went out with anyone younger than 16 but now the kids don't seem bothered

I beleive this should explain the acceptable limits:

That's just sick. I can remember when I was younger though, that it was "cool" to date an older guy, especially if he could drive you around.

I don't think anyone's against the older guy/younger girl thing, it's just the extent that it's been taken to in this example...

By younger, I meant the age of the girl mentioned in the OP. When I was 14, I dated a guy who was almost 4 years older than me, and I didn't think there was anything wrong with it until I got to 17 and looked back at other 14 year olds.
