Bit suprised at this really was woken up this morning by a loud clicking from my QNAP TS 209, hoped it was a knackered fan but the serve was flashing red and reporting a drive had gone down in the log - its the first time I have had a drive failed and thankfully I was running a RAID 1 array in my QNAP (im currently copying everything off it!).

I bought a pair of the drives from here on 25 Nov, 07 (order ref OC365644), has anyone else had a problem with them failing?

Also can anyone from overclockers advise how I go about getting a replacement under warantee?

Yes drives do fail, but you don't expect one that is waranteed till Feb 2011 to last a little bit longer than 6 months ;) - Reminder to all to make sure you have a secure backup of your most important/personal files.

It seems I should deal direct with samsung as an RMA via REXO. Anyone used them to process their RMA? :)

I've had drives fail within 48 hours of fitting them (and i'm not clumsy), that was for a drive under warranty until march 2013.

Rexo from memory (I had 3 drives bought at the same time from a B&M store fail within 6 months*), are extremely fast with their turnaround on the drives.
I think they just book the drive/rma in and send out the replacement straight away (it's generally a case of posting the drive on say a monday and getting the replacement by courier on wednesday).

*I suspect the B&M store may have dropped the pallet they were on or something similar (apart from them i've only had 2 drives fail under warranty in 10 years, and still have the replacements for the samsungs running 3 years on).

I had a Raptor DOA.

:( Got two of those in raid 0 in my pc... quite looking forward to the velociraptor drive :D

Thankfully the samsung was part of a two disc raid 1 array in my QNAP NAS - all my data was safe and I have a backup of it also :)

Cheers for the heads up on the postage - £3 sounds great... now off to find a jiffy bag :D

I wouldnt send it in a jiffy bag if I was you m8. They will void the warranty as its ment to be sent in a proper hard drive box.

I don't have one of those boxes as I gave them away when I sold my old drives, I only have a large jiffy bag and lots of bubble wrap :(

TBH the drive is dead as dead can be, it just make a loud clacking sound every 1 second when powered on. I shouldn't even be paying out to send it but I very much doubt they will reimburse me the costs.

Quick update:

Rexo received the drive on 3rd and today I get an email saying a replacement should be with me shortly. Had to chase them twice as apparently their contract with UPS was providing troublesome... just glad it wasn't my main drive as being without a pc for two weeks or so would be unacceptable.
