Whats your job, and how much you take home monthly?

IT 2nd/3rd line support .... ~2000/month basic after tax/NI/pension/etc is taken off ... can, and has at times, rise by another ~1000+ dependent on oncall or overtime ...

... it's low and I could get much more elsewhere/contracting but I have issues with travelling which mean that commuting and travelling to sites can be an issue for me ...

Have you got a long term plan? if not go get a decent job. Well get a better paid job anyway. Look at other supermarkets some like aldi pay very well.

Long term plan is to move up the ladder in Retail. But problem is I can't really do that straight away (need experience etc) so I just have to bloomin' put up with this until a) I've been at tesco long enough for it not to look awful on my cv or b) I can start moving up within tesco.

Although they had the cheek to say, in reply to my saying (during just general chit chat) 'Oh don't be silly, I'm too young to get this teamleader job. Not to mention I've only been here a month'.

To which they all insisted age was no an issue nor was experience. But then when they gave the job to someone else (which I fully expected, he has more experience than myself and is older) they said "Sorry it due to your experience and age".

That sentence starts fine (experience > all these days) then just turns into down right discrimination towards the end! I feel like I get ****ed over because of my age. Co-workers taking the pee, no one takes me seriously etc. I also get taken advatage of, because I'm the first person they ask to do overtime. Becuause they know that I'll a)work hard and b) do the job far better than most (not all) of the other staff. Fair enough? Not really because the reason actually is I get paid a lot less than everyone else so it looks better on the wages report when they can say the only had to pay £xx overtime for any given day.

Its crap, but like I said above. Nowt I can do for the time being!

Tesco Home shopping/.com driver

£820 a month after tax/pension etc is taken

*waves* :)

apply out side of trescos no reason to stay with the same employer. No reason you couldn't get a team leader for high job with another retailer.

Apply apply apply.

Between £1400 & £1700 per month for me (Alarm Engineer), the miss around £1200-£1400 per month (Hairdresser/Manager), Which I don't think is a bad joint wage tbqh, Somehow still end up skint every month!

Graduate Structural Engineer and my wage for the last year was £35k, low for the industy but in a few more years I get to go contract and will be on around £96k-150k depending on location and time spent offshore.

Great grad salary, strange as I've just done a degree in fire engineering and a few of the guys I work with were working as structural engineers but changed to fire.

Can I ask who you work for?

Welcome to my world.. I quit the job instead though.

So you must be a backroom shopper or a picker

*Waves back* :)

Backroom, and it sucks  Work at a new tesco extra in Reading. Going upto 6vans with enough staff for 4. Can't wait! (only have 2 backroom staff as well!).

You drivers got it easy :p Damn you! Or Customer Delivery Assistants rather. :D

I work for a division of Eni called Saipem, we are basically one of the biggest structural contractor in the world, not that well known as we are owned by an Italian oil company.

I get to travel a lot aswell :)

www.saipem.eni.it if you want a look. Also that was my first yr.

(Per Annum) Currently £23k ish, in two months £25k ish as Java Software Developer. Really need to either work my little butt off in overtime, or get an employer other than the government or go for promotion! I have a degree and a half (lol), but really should be getting more.

Wife as a mobile carer is not worth the little she gets paid for the stress and tiredness it causes... her's is variable pay due to hours.

Surprising how little money if any, or debt we have at the end of the month. Student loan, loans, silly credit cards decisions before I got married.

You can live on anything as long as you live within your means. You can also WASTE all your means even if you earn 9000 a month as Thorpy likes to pretend :p

Mine depends on who I am working for at the time and what it is that they are after. The further away they are and the greater the "what" that is wanted the more I get paid :D

I used to work for a big firm where all personnel files where accessible to anyone in the company so you could see your mate's salaries, review forms etc. Or perhaps those of your boss if it interested you. After trawling through some of the 10,000 files you get a bit blasé to knowing what people earn.

Anyhow, if it helps your choice of job, ten years into a career that satrted as graduate IT developer, then project manager, then programme manager and currently a management consultant for a small firm - I earn between £4K and £5K take home a month after tax and NI deductions. That's mainly London based work.

I earn enough per month to pay my mortgage and have some beer tokens left over at the end of the month. I could earn more by relocating to Lahhhndon or by contracting, but I prefer earning slightly less and having a great work / home life balance.

The amount I pay in tax each month, though, is shocking... I currently pay more in tax than the takehome pay for my first job was :(
