Under-rated bands...

I would say the two most underrated bands in my opinion would have to be The Men They Couldn't Hang - one if the best live bands out there, and Cry Before Dawn - best Irish band, only made two albums before they sadly disappeared.
Also an honourable mention to The kitchens of Distinction.

Haha, I remember reading this thread.

Love Idlewild, got a few of their albums, loved the last two.

I'll add Bloc Party to the mix. I absolutely love them, but most people I talk to either hasn't listened to them or refuses to listen to them :(

The Music. Amazing live, best gig I've ever been too. They are releasing a new album soon too, maybe this time...

Came here to say this. Very impressed with their new single, the more so because I hadn't heard anything from them in about seven years.

Also, my perennial favourite the Dave Matthews Band are criminally underappreciated here in the UK. But they make up for it in the States.

Bloc Party are absolutely huge.

Can I add Genesis to the list Think they are up there with the likes of Floyd and Zeppelin and probably the best live band in the world ? always liked them and having recently seen genesis when in rome it blew me away needed reminding just how epic they truly are.

Lol I know but I just feel they aren't regarded in the same breath as your zeppelins floyds and whos when they really should be.

That's mainly because most people think Genesis and think Phil Collins. Then think of the popular Genesis which produced some truly mediocre material. They don't remember they awesome Peter Gabriel Genesis.

Always thought Dredg, in particular their first two albums were underrated.

true, but Catch Without Arms was a massive disappointment. Ode to the Sun is an utterly phenominal song, but the rest of the album can't keep up with it. Shame, that.

I prefer Phil Collins Genesis :o

Shed 7 were underrated in my opinion, one of the best British bands of the 90s and agreed Skunk Anansie were fantastic.

Supergrass were another band that never really seemed to enjoy the success they should have.

Jokester

My mate has the shed 7 drummer as his music tutor

Mindless Self Indulgence
Mansun
Kyuss
The Flashbulb

EDIT: Jamie Woon (although not a band, very good nonetheless)

I haven't actually got round to listening to Catch Without Arms but hand on heart, Leitmotif and El Cielo are among the few albums I'd take with me if I was to be stranded on an island. :D

I haven't heard of this band. I'm not really into progressive rock, the most prog rock I am happy going is Riverside. Bands like Spock's Beard, Porcupine Tree, Frost* etc set my teeth on edge. Should I check out dredg?
