Under-rated bands...

I always thought Aswad were very under rated. I wne to a Madness concert once, they were total rubbish, but Aswad were the supporting band and had some fantastic dub reggae

I haven't actually got round to listening to Catch Without Arms but hand on heart, Leitmotif and El Cielo are among the few albums I'd take with me if I was to be stranded on an island. :D

give it a listen, it's a bit more radio-friendly, but it's definitely worth it just for the first track

I haven't heard of this band. I'm not really into progressive rock, the most prog rock I am happy going is Riverside. Bands like Spock's Beard, Porcupine Tree, Frost* etc set my teeth on edge. Should I check out dredg?

Not very similiar to bands like PT at all, more of a general alternative/indie rock sound but with a slightly odd, introverted, subtle and almost middle-eastern/oriental tinged arty/experimental aspect to it (you can tell I'm struggling with vocabulary here :p). I'd say the music has a similiar vibe to that of Kayo Dot, except with a different style and approach.

I'd try Leitmotif first as it's their most intense and raw effort; El Cielo follows closely, but takes a slightly more optimisitic/mellow and progressive approach (where as Leitmotif has a more dark and desolate feel).

Also the production on both albums is sublime, especially the drumming on Leitmotif which is just bursting with energy at times, making you want to really crank up the volume.

Agreed with Lifehouse and The Album Leaf mentions. Dredg aswell, although they are very popular on the metal scene - a lot of tool fans seem to like them.

edit: adding another - Mogwai and Disturbed.

Who thinks Disturbed are underrated? Didn't their debut album sell 3m copies?
