I hear you helmutcheese, but a RAID0 pair of VRaptors is already £400+ on...

Raptor access times are 2 times as fast of a standard 7200, but dont feel 2x as fast, but SSD are 1000's time faster, priceless in my books.

IMHO it's worth hanging on for a few more months and splash out on two fairly fast 64GB SSD's. Their performance will be staggering.

You wont be getting very fast SSD's in decent Size @ decent Price this year never mind in a few months m8.

I paid more for 2x Raptor X's at launch.

The 64GB SSD's that do 120MB Read and 100MB Write cost a fortune and Intels 200MB ones will be much more.

The intel high performance SSD's will be at least 200MB/120MB read/write speeds with 250GB capacity Q1 2009. Those thinking of raiding these will need a dedicated H/W controller IMO.

They wont be cheap however prices will drop sharply pushing down 64GB models.

I read all that but your not going to get what you ideally want in 2008.

Problem is, that 64Gb isnt enough to just install and forget about programs when you run Vista. My install is roughly 90Gb on my Raid0 Raptors (I play a lot of games!) and includes about a dozen game installs. (Sup-Com and FA take up a LOT ofspace on their own!)

I agree totally, Ive ordered a velociraptor as a stop gap until that time.

Exactly, the Intel 160GB SSD will be much more suitable. the 250GB even more so but I'm guesing $4000-$5000 at current flash prices (for the 250GB).

Thanks man (finally a real report by a real user).

The specs WD claim are not the real specs we see (think its cache to disk or such).

So they claim 120MB/Sec you get 104MB (will vary a bit for some I guess).

They claim 84MB/Sec for Raptor X AFAIK and it actually gets around 75-78MB/Sec (varys from set up's)

So thats a good improvement and seeks lower too.
