Hello again,

I was wondering if someone would be able to tell me what the best 8800gt is?

And what cards is it as good as or beat ?

Or is it worth waiting, and for how long ?

I was assuming one of the following would be.........................

Asus GeForce EN8800 GT 1024MB

EVGA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB KO

Gigabyte GeForce 8800 GT OC 512MB

BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC2 512MB

Look forward to hearing peeps opinions, thanks. :)

Well, the new cards are being released in a few weeks, so it could be worth you waiting.

1GB of ram on an 8800 GT isn't worth it, the card doesn't have the actual grunt to make use of it more than likely.

Personally I would just get the cheapest one possible, they are all based around a reference design really.

I'd go for the Gainward 8800GT Golden Sample 512MB

It has an aftermarket cooler, quietier and better than the stock fans most of the 8800GT's use.

Plus, is highly overclockable!

bfg or evga best warranty's = best resale value if not by much but what would you rather buy a card with 8 years warranty left or a card with a few months left ?

i recently bought a POV 8800gt it cost me £105 and had the updated cooler with the bigger fan (still single slot) i cant see the point in paying more for any other make/model of 8800gt

Get the cheapest one. If you start looking at the more expensive models you might aswell get the cheapest 8800GTS 512MB

Have to agree here. 99% of the bog standard GTs will reach the speeds of pre-oc'ed models anyway;)

I bought the BFG one, and am buying another one tomorrow, I've never owned BFG before, owned Leadtek, which I wasn't fussy on I'll be honest... the BFG one of mine runs at 725/1850/2200 100% stable, and benchs at 750/1900/2200 100% stable, yet in games, that speed results in blocks, coming form the shader me thinks

Cheers Pug

Well i just got the Gigabyte version, runs very nice but i certainly notice the Zalman fan, a lot noisier than my 7900 GTO.

Note The Zalman fan in only 2 pin so can't turn down with rivatuner or any other program, which i was not aware of and is now irritiating me.

3dmarks06 score 12816 with q6600 and 2gb ram, decent?

Just make sure you don't get one with a years warranty you will have to sell on the very cheap if there's only a couple moths warranty left I for one would not buy any card with less than a years warranty left and I don't think many people would.

Question- does your particular card have the exact same cooler as the picture on this store? That particular one is revision 2.0 of the card, which has a different cooler to the one I have (which is still by Zalman, but the same as on the pciture for the 256mb version).

Just wondering really, as mine is pretty quiet with the older cooler.

Why do u assume I will be upgrading as soon as a new card comes out?

I don't think he means that. I think he means think about how long you plan to keep the card before you'll want to upgrade. Personally, I would advise you to wait. There's new cards coming that'll be in the same price range as 8800GTs, but they'll be faster. :)

Got a Point Of View one, as it was said the cooler is the updated version afaik, very quiet indeed. Was a steal at £100. :)
