drinking from the bathroom tap?

I drink the water from the stream at the bottom of my garden so i dont see why i cant drink from the bathroom tap. Worst its gonna do is give me the ****'s!

why risk the ***** for a drink of water tbh.....
the proper way would be to drink cheapo cider and then have a cannon ball launch from your ass, the next day :P

it is a sure thing unlike bathroom water :)

In 3 years if installing 2-3 heating systems a week I've only ever seen 2 bathroom taps taken from the tank and that's because they were old mixer taps. The rest come straight from the mains like any other tap in the house. It's fine to drink.

*smacks head against desk*

Many (millions?) of properties in this country will have cold water taps in bathrooms fed directly by cold water storage tanks.

This includes both my flat, my parents' house, my Nan's bungalow etc. etc. etc.

Wether you should drink from them or not is open to debate. I always have, but it's probably not a good idea as mentioned above, who knows what's dropped into the tank.

Why would people not drink from their bathroom tap, don't they all almost come from the mains? I always drink it and it never did me any harm! *twitches*

I just saw the OP as a bit of a stupid question *shrugs*

Don't know why but evert time i scroll down this page and see the thread title i can't help but have a chuckle to my self.

I did it when i was younger or hung over but other wise no.

Unless you have a cold water tank (which is probably unlikely these days) in your house the upstairs water is the same as the downstairs. There's only 1 water supply to a house.
Hot water sits in a water tank depending on your setup, which is why people say not to drink hot water from the tap.
When it comes to work buildings/offices, etc. Most toilet taps are not good to drink from as the company may provide it's own filtering/water cleaning process. In this case you'll usually find 'drinking water' taps/machines.

all your toilet water, taps come from mains ! you only have a top tank if your on a Y plan system (hot water backup)......why the hell would you feed cold water in to be just stood in a tank? that would be bloody horrific, if i were to turn my water off the feed wouldnt get to my bathroom as everything is below thus having no pressure to get upstairs...... n00bs! ask any plumber, all cold water is fed in from the mains. The mains goes upstairs to your tank for it to heat, but you have branches off below the tank to your bathroom for cold. The only place you could have anything like what people are saying is if your in remote areas where theres no feed, like bang in the sticks where you could have a spring or a well.

Ugh, I drank about 2 litres of cold tap water from my mates bathroom this morning while hungover, and he lives in a relatively old council house which im fairly sure uses a cold water tank.

Wish I never read this thread now :(

We must do because I hardly ever see systems done like that. The only time I'd ever take a cold feed off of the DHW tank is to feed a mavity shower or if there were old mixer taps and the mains pressure was quite high.

In the UK All the houses I ever lived in had no tank in the roof and no storage heaters.
Cold water came from the mains and hot water was heated on demand by a combi boiler. I would say yes, drink from any tap but if you do do have a cold water tank do so at your own risk.

And to the people who say the water down south is bad are making a sweeping statement, generally in Devon/South West where the water runs off Dartmoor or other expanses of high land the quality is great, in the middle of the country north of Dorset & Somerset before you get to the areas fed by other highlands like the Peaks, Pennines and Dales then yes the water is quite bad.

If there's a tank in the loft space, do not drink it!

My cold water tank had no lid when we bought our house, and was full of dead spiders and beetles. Whenever we ran the bath, it would end up with loads of bits to sift out.

Not nice.

Brilliant.

As for the original question, it isn't likely to kill you but it probably isn't the cleanest supply either. Or to put it another way I'm still relatively fine and normal and I've drunk from bathroom taps most days since I was very little, then again I also used to drink from the stream outside my parents house so I wouldn't take my advice as necessarily being great for you - it is however the coldest, best tasting water ever.

Jesus!!! YES or NO would have done lol.
So the answer is, some houses are different and if theres a water take its not wise to drink from it.
