Devil May Cry 4 Benchmark, DX9 and 10.

Wow.. that game may look fantastic in screenshots but the animations, weapon effects and other effects in general just suck. I'm generally entertained by graphics tests but watching the character just use the same move over and over while in God mode just doesn't cut it for me. Especially when there are so many bits that look so bad.

Sure the buildings look nice but the amount of clipping is unreal, the movements are jerky, the characters are unimaginative and what the hell is with those pathetic blood spatters when he was fighting the big dragon?

Such a terrible looking game, I turned off my speakers and was sorely tempted to go read a book while it was finishing.

Anyway here is my screenshot, rank C, settings were:

1680x1050,
8xAA,
Everything Super High,
V-sync On.

And thankyou but no, I won't be upgrading my gpu and cpu, 38fps is just fine with me especially when it's v-synced.

Didn't notice bad clipping but the animation was dead smooth at 60fps V-Synced & you V-synced at such low fps will cause jerky moment but with out the tearing, even the game tells you at the end of the test about the movement & this game really does need the fps to look good smooth.

Beautifully coded though it is, (I mean, Rainbow6 vegas barely runs on this machine, as an example of an infinite number of monkeys at an infinite number of development consoles), but the game play looks repetative, and the AI seems to be retarded in some way.

Not my cup of boiled leaf extract at all, but it does look lovely.

I think DX10 falls on it's backside at high res because of the smoke effects....and the AA naturally (high AA AND smoke is a recipe for stuttering)

I don't know why people don't do

1280x1024 all high 4xAA and DX 9 and 10 as wellhub mentioned, and a comparision with your highest res, but same AA and DX 9 and 10.

I just ran DMC4 and its mucked up, its like all inverted colours and weird :s

I'll do a 1280x1024 all high 8xCAA for comparison later but for now since DX10 dont work, DX9.0C, 1680x1050, 8xCAA all super high:

DMC4.jpg

16xAF also.

Have another look, especially the starting scene I noticed a lot of clipping through the cars etc.

I didn't mean that the animation wasn't smooth, I meant the characters movement looked jerky. As in arms moved too quickly and so on. Basically it's just bad IKA animation instead of getting some decent mo-cap. Not that they can mo-cap everything in there but there are ways of blending mo-cap with IKA to just about anything.

What the game tells you at the end is bull. I've never had a problem gaming at anything over 30fps.

EDIT: I'll run the demo again with willhubs settings, 1280x1024, 4xAA, High, no vsync.

Well do super high not high, I never realised there was super high.

Too late now and I'll be damned if I'm doing it again :p

Got S on 1280x1024, 4xAA, Super High, no v-sync.

same settings I got 106.13/72.92/119.12/72.36, seems like 8800GT is crap at lower res but pulls up at higher res.

1600 x 1200 everything on Super High, no AA:

Not happy with a 'B'! So 1600 x 1200 everything on Super High (except this time shadows on just 'High'), no AA:

That's better:)

I will have to do some tests as its dead smooth at 2560x1600 here.
DX10 mode 2560x1600 4msaa everything on super high
FPS c1=97 c2=72 c3=170 c4=80.
Tri xfire tho.

Because I dont game at 1280x1024 and the FPS is stupidly high - better having comaprisons at higher resolutions where the CPU isn't bottlenecking

I agree with that - we want to eliminate the CPU as much as possible - e.g. I have a stock 3800X2

Got to hand it to Capcom for optimising their engine so well. This game runs like butter on the 360 too. Nice change from the usual can't-even-hold-a-solid-30fps mess that a lot of console (and PC) games are in these days.

Also: DX10 stock demo settings. Q9450, 8800 GTS 512

175 / 135 / 217 / 110 FPS

Or, we can ask you to buy them for the people on lower resolutions :D. C'mon Will, that crack dealing business must make some pretty good money

I would if I had millions but I'm not that rich :p, the money tree just aint growing this year.

Aye it does, in GTA. :D.
