Found a large spider when i got home.

Dealing with spiders is easy.

You but a heavy glass over them, put a heavy book ont he glass and tell your wife all about your bravery, and suggest she finishes the job.

And then brag to all your mates about how you managed to deal with this amazing threat, in a much more dramatised story :p

I once stuck a mug over one (bigger than that, its legs barely fitted under) and left it there for what I think was 3 days, just totally forgot about it. Eventually got round to picking it up and out he came as if nothing had happened.

Poor bugger.

That's not a spider, this is a spider! (ok, it's a house spider... but I just wanted to creep some people out)

lol look at that beast... makes me cringe looking at it..

best way is to lob it out your back door into the yard then pray it doesnt come back for revenge.

A large female black widow spider can grow to about 1.5 inches (37 mm), counting leg-span. The body is about 0.5-0.6 inches (12-15 mm). Male black widow spiders are half the size of the female or smaller.

Other way around (according to Wiki)

Well, wikipedia also backs up my original point...

:p

It's a Tegenaria of some description. A house spider. And yes they get pretty large.

Other points:

Black widows are not very big spiders
Black widow females are substantially larger than males, not the other way around.

FIRE FIRE FIRE FIRE FIRE FIRE FIRE, then destroy smoulding ovaries with strategic mustard Gigatonne nuke from orbit.

ffs stop witht the pictures ! we know what spiders look like . arghhh

honestly if i walked into my room and seen any of the spiders in this thread there would be nothing anyone could do to stop me running out into the street and running about screaming!

its the suprise of spiders that terrifies me. if someone said "theres a spider the size of my face in the corner of your room so look when you go in" id be fine. but if i wasnt expecting it then god help me

Well I am off to Laos in a few weeks and they have BLUE tarantulas over there ;)

How awesome is that, a BLUE spider!!!

Well, wikipedia also backs up my original point...

For what it's worth, at my aunt's in Cali, she's got an automatic gate behind the garage. The sensors wern't picking up the car and i saw loads of gunk inside the sensor box. Upon grabbing a stick and giving it a good old poke in the hole (fnarr) to clear the mess, a black widow jumped on to the end of the stick.

It wasnt particularly large but i touched cloth anyway. About the size of a garden spider.
