Microsoft to Announce Blu-Ray Xbox on Monday

I think this sub forum is pure evidence that console users are pathetic whingers becasue they can't justify having both formats so feel the need to pick faults with one or the other.

The 360 is a bit noisy, boo hoo. Don't like it get a PS3. If you were really bothered about blu Ray you'd get a PS3 or alternative player.

In other news, probs gonna sell my 360. Can't be bothered with it anymore. Console-less I shall be.

You're evidence fails really as many of us have PS3's and 360's (and wii's)

The biggest whingers aren't in consoles for the gaming sections on OcUK... nor are there any real whingers here. More-so, most owners do own multiple formats so are in a position to comment, such as myself (who commented on Xbox360 being too loud, but I also own a Wii, PS3, DS Lite and PSP).

You can go and sell your console, it makes no difference to anyone here really, however you really are going to limit yourself in terms of games.

Oh, and the "My PS3 is prettier than the 360" posts etc. are?

I was joist poitning out how it seems to have derailed into another boring whinging thread.

:o

No. They don't need to, BR is causing as many problems as it's stopping. DVD swapping isn't an issue, I'd take DVD swapping over installations for example.

Anyone thinking MGS4 isn't possible on DVD would be wrong, it's always possible to have disc swapping. Next-Generation Blu-Ray WILL be used brilliantly, MS may use their own propriety format much like Sega did with GD's for Dreamcast, but for now, mass storage on game discs is only beneficial for bonus content and HD-Videos.

If MS add a BR drive it will be purely for movies.
I hope you're right (and I think you are) Disc swapping is fine, it all depends on how it's implemented.

I just lurk. I'd love a Blu Ray for the 360, im not against it. It would make me keep it. I love the 360 but I'm a bit bored of the games I suppose. I play them for a week then don't touch it for months. I don't get on with the online due to lack of real friends to play with and the playing experience with random players being mostly negative. I'd rather pcoket the money for now and maybe pick one up at a later date.

Anyway, less of the offtopic.

Would be a nice to see Blu Ray for the 360. The console would hold a higher value to me being that im an occasional gamer (used to hammer the thing for hours though) and the fact I have a HD TV with no other HD source yet. I'd rather it was an add-on than an SKU. But if an SKU would be confirmed I;d sell up now then re-buy later I suppose!

i dont like watching film with an headset, its gay.

Personally you get so much more of a personal and involved feel, whether it be from music, games or from movies with a good set of headphones.

A decent set of 5.1 headphones, a darkened room and a good quality game/movie can be such an immersive thing. It adds to any movie or game easily.

How is that "gay"

The machine itself is also fat, ugly and hideous compared to the 360 and Wii. Most ergonomic? Must be having a laugh!

Bar it being pretty large, I personally thing the PS3 is the better looking. It's almost piano black look, quite sleek and a nice feel to it too.

When did this forum become a junior school playground?

It's coming close to the school holidays, the cycle begins as all the kids get time to post on forums.

Although generally the slagging off gets a bit much in here at times whether it's kids or not.

You do know who you're replying to I assume?

From an interview with Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's entertainment and devices division yesterday

* Q: In January, Warner Bros. announced that it was going to support Blu-ray, the high-definition DVD format. Since then, the rival HD DVD format has gone away. Microsoft supported HD DVD with an Xbox HD DVD attachment. What is your plan there?

* A: Our plan continues to focus on high-definition experiences. Xbox 360 has a great ability to deliver those through the Xbox Live (online download) service. It's a great way to get the high-definition concept because it's right there. There's no additional media. There is nothing you need to purchase.
If you look at the Blu-ray player market, you haven't seen the acceleration everybody expected (since the demise of HD DVD). It's not as much about whether all the content is in a Blu-ray format or a HD DVD format. You have to look at how fundamentally compelling the difference is between a progressive scan DVD player and the picture that it can produce and what you get on a high-definition player. The reality is there is some difference, but most people look at it and say, "I am not going to pay extra for that."

* Q: So no plans for Blu-ray in the next generation Xbox?

* A: No. There is nothing to even talk about right now with regard to the next generation. That is so far out that there isn't anything to talk about.

We shouldn't be having installations, nor disc-swapping. Multiple installations throughout games are even worse. I really hope MGS4 doesn't set a trend here. We can swap discs if we want to play different games, but HDD space is only finite and if this trend keeps going on, we're going to have to delete and reinstall different games if we want to play on them. This shouldn't be the way of the PS3 and I hope they make concessions and measures to avoid and eliminate this problem before it becomes too widespread. Some 20GB owners are already feeling the heat.

I'd rather install than disk swap though. Click of a button and a cut-scene really doesnt bother me at all. Much better than insert Disc 29 now, especially as my room is a tip. Most installs are done at the start of the game anyway, which also benefits by not disrupting gameplay. Harddrive space is a concern but they're upgradeable, even on 40Gb, thats still 6-7 games at 4-5Gb each (some are likely to be a lot less than that + taken 10Gb for OS etc). So someone with a 250Gb harddrive, well I cba to do the maths, but I don't think you'd have to really monitor what games you install. Eitherway though in an ideal world both would be better gone! Bring back cartridges.
