The Mass Effect (PC) Discussion Thread

tried for the first time yesterday, i was not really impressed i must say(i must be wierd) but i didnt give it enough time too !

I didn't really understand the character creation thingy, so i went for a dumb soldier. Also i couldn't find how to get AA? if anyone could point me where it is.

well i started on the first planet there killed a few monster and quit :p didnt know why but i didn't really like the character creation, i'll give it another go soon with so many good comment it have to be good somewhat hehe, and i'm heavily into RPG most of the time so..

On the other hand that UI is shocking... Console port for sure and really disappointed after all this time they couldn't improve it.

?? but doesnt the UI only appear if you press space so its not really obtrusive at all?

One thing which is a sort complaint...

the default face of Shepherd.... its impossible to replicate that in the face customisation tool. Why?

very rarely i get a sound loop in a piece of dialogue but apart from that not a bug in sight :D

I played this for eight solid hours last night and i'm still exploring the citadel.

Looks lovely and runs very smooth on my rig (3.6c2q, 8800 gtx).

How does the rest of the game compare to the open freedom of the citadel? any more large locations or is it just small outposts?

I almost dont want to leave :D

Small outposts but that doesn't really matter when the citadel is so awesome :)

right any tips for squad members that wont take cover ? ive gotten into plenty firefights only for them to stand around catching bullets with their heads! the 'down button' for take cover seems to be broke

I thought 'down' was break cover and follow you?

your right! you need to set them to defensive stance and then tell them to go to cover...not hard really, my 2 partners usually sit behind cover taking pop shots (how I like it) but the moment one of the enemies gets a little too close, BAM! lifted into the air and then all 3 of pound the crap out of em!

Id personally buff charm up asap (if you go paragon path) to get all dialog options. other than that im a soldier and specced out in rifle usage, combat armour, spectre and the rest as i saw fit

cheers, i had started putting talents into the pistols and a few into charm. (seemed to help find out new information and bonus items)

I can not even get it to run on my PC, clean Vista 64bit Ultimate install.

I just get a message that the program has stopped working.

So I have got the game running pretty smooth now for the most part and have been playing for about 2 or 3 hours. I have just reached the part where you can travel to other galaxies and stuff. So far it's pretty great although like a previous poster stated, it can be a bit dialogue heavy at the beginning which you get used to after a bit.

Just played a few hours worth, so far my fps hasnt dropped below the mid 40s ( mainly in the citadel) but usually running at 60fps with max settings 1680x1050, havent chaned anything the the config file yet, do have 1 small gripe though, the shadows arent very good, they look like the same 1s in GTA4 on the ps3

EDIT: also decided to not go with *** default shepard, went Earth born, lone survivor infiltrator.

Even though I've renamed the .exe to UT3 and forced AA via the NV control panel, I'm sure AA isn't on.

use the nVidia control panel > manage 3d settings > program settings - and set the AA to what you want it works fine

I thought 'down' was break cover and follow you?

Orders :

Tactics HUD Hold SPACEBAR
