GA-P35C-DS3R vs GA-EP43-DS3L

Neither come with RAID, EP is there energy range of motherboards, which with there software varies performance of your PC to save energy.

RAID allows you to connect multiple hard drives for redundancy or performance.

what you mean... both say they have raid ?

The GA P35C DS3R has RAID - hence the 'R'. The GA EP43 DS3L doesn't.

How does RAID increase performance though?

All of Gigabyte new P43/P45 come with it now.

Is there a winner out of these 2 boards please folks?

The p43 is a cut down P45. The GA-P35C-DS3R is a DDR2/DDR3 motherboard and some folks have problems overclocking.

The R is the DDR 2 / DDR 3 model and according to Gigabyte spec does not include RAID:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products...board&ProductID=2749&ProductName=GA-P35C-DS3R

Yes it does. It has 8 SATA sockets, 2 of which are purple. The purple ones are RAID enabled. So I guess it's not true raid, but it's better than nothing.

Edit: and having checked your link, I can only surmise you must be very unobservant. :p

"6. Integrated SATA 3Gb/s with RAID function"
"2. Support for SATA RAID 0, RAID 1, and JBOD"

The spec says:

Integrated SATA 3Gb/s with RAID function :D

Plus the R on the end of the model means... RAID :D

They are all RAID capable. The purple ones are JMicron and the others are Intel ICH9R

Can it be turned off ?

Yes as you have to install Gigabytes application anyway to use it.

What's JMicron?

I thought the R meant it has ICH9R which adds firewire (over the non R version)... i could be wrong though?

the C at the end of P35C means it takes DDR2 & DDR3

They make chips. But not the ones you can eat with salt and vinegar :D

They make a 2-port SATA and IDE controller which Gigabyte use as Intel removed IDE support in the ICH9 controller.

R means RAID
P means firewire and RAID. :)

It looks like your right.... confusing number system or what :D

Doh :o, yep it does include RAID on the Purple connectors  - Roll eyes for me.

It's the C version includes DDR2 & 3.
