All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

Id like to see a front 3 of Villa Babel Torres with 3 of the 4 Barry Masch Gerrard Lucas behind them. I think we could get away without a winger this season, If we have 3 upfront, For difficult games Kuyt playing to disrupt opposition midfield/defense much like Rooney & Tevez do for Utd.
 
As ive said before, we may not have that much cash to spend but providing the likes of Crouch, Carson, Riise and Pennant all leave then we're not going to need much.

With Degen coming on a free and the money we're likely to spend on Barry coming from Alonso's sale then the money from the 4 above (£20-25m) plus a little bit more from the club should be enough to bring in a decent winger and striker as well as Dossena.
 
I can't see Villa being in your price range now. And why would you sign him and Alves when you're already looking to sell one striker because he doesn't get enough games?

Where else will Rafa look to put first team players after he gets Barry? I'm guessing right wing, as I'd imagine your first choice mid/forwards would be:

Babel - - - - - - Gerrard - - - Kuyt
- - - - - Barry - - - - - - - - - - -

Yea. As Kuyt showed for Holland the other day and towards the back end of the season he can do a decent job on the right but he shouldn't be starting there. We need a rw and with Crouch leaving that then only leaves us with Kuyt and Torres up front so we need another striker too.

I don't think we're even considering Villa tbh, he'd be great to have but if we're settling on this system then he's not going to be happy being cover for Torres and im sure we wouldn't pay that much for cover.
 
Fulham completed signing of Zoltan Gera on a free transfer. He's signed a three year deal too.

Happy so far with who they've signed.

I'm telling you what is reported, Benitez has this summers transfer budget already allocated after the january refinancing deal.
If he wants more, players have to be sold, he COULD ask the club to borrow more money and increase debt, but how they are going to pay them back, promise them that they will win the the double or treble every year for the next ten years?
 
Frings? I'm never for buying somebody that old unless they're a keeper. But we're desperately short of experience and role models (lolcopter) in the squad. With Song signing on - hopefully this will mean that Gilberto will leave.

Forget Ronaldo going to Madrid, Kaka going to United/Chelsea, Drogba to Milan etc... Frings for £4m would be, for me, the transfer of the summer. Even at 31 he's a fantastic player.

No, Frings is a defensive midfielder, he will be there to replace Flamini (he's a million miles better than Flamini and Gilberto). He's one of the top 5 DMC's in the world for me, he had a perfect game the other day for Germany.

Ramsey is an attacking winger who's pretty dynamic with very quick feet.
 
Yeah I thought Ramsey was an attacking mid, but some odd reports seem to think we've got him nailed down for Flamini's role. Oh well. :confused:

Yes, but you say we're desperately lacking experience, and then you advocate shipping off our most seasoned player, the same one who's been advising his fellow players not to ask for wage rises when they've won nothing. I don't get it.

His character might be fine and very stoical. He's just not good enough on the pitch for us. He's been very much past it whenever he's been on this season.
