Toyota Aygo

Im just being realistic. Assuming petrol prices keep rising as they are then low mpg cars like mine will become incredibly unpopular.

This is what the government wants us to think. In reality, most people who are enthusiastic about cars will accept that it will cost them a couple of quid more per fillup, in return for not having to drive a crap car. Don't fall into the eco-******** trap, please. If you don't drive far, then an extra few pounds per tank isn't going to bankrupt you

Are you really just interested in a car which is cheap to run? Because we can argue all day about how your existing car may actually work out being the cheapest option over the next few years, but it's hardly going to scratch the new car desire itch, is it? Quite apart from the benefits that you can't really put a price on, like it being easier to park / get around in a city in a little car. I begin to wonder whether this should be a "spec me a city car" thread, rather than a "can my motoring life be cheaper" thread! :)

If you must have an aygo (which given your current criteria seems pointless) then also look at the Citroen C1. Its the same car but should be cheaper to buy. (IIRC it was something like £500 cheaper when they compared them on top gear).

I dont need a car thats hyper efficient, i would be happy if i had a car that did 30-40 mpg and was reasonably cheap to insure.

new car itch, its a tempting itch to scratch. What ever happens im going to be selling the 600, its what i replace it with.

No No No No and No, i would rather pay an extra £500 Than be seen in a French branded car.:D

 Then go ahead and waste your money then. The Aygo, 107 and C1 are all identical. They have very slight front and rear cosmetic differences but other than that they are the same.

And if you really want something to reduce your outgoings from the 200 why not look at an older fiesta? Say a 02/03 plate 1.25 zetec. Will be as cheap to run as the aygo but would save you circa £3k on the purchase price.

Its the SAME CAR. If you are a badge snob why on earth are you buying a crappy little Aygo, no snob value there.

I know but its French ANYTHING but French ;):D:p

but on a serous note ive looked at the Sh-Citroen and i prefer the look of the Aygo.

Oh if someone wants to recommend something else im happy to look at it.

Shadez, your maths makes no sense. Your current car will cost you more than a grand less a year, and there is no chance in hell a 3 year old min spec 1.0 Aygo will be worth £4.5K after three years. Try £2K (here - and thats only 1 year old)

If you've got £6K to spend, buy something you're going to enjoy and want to drive for three years for £4-5K and stick the rest in the bank.

Thats a Cat C / D Aygo thats not even been fixed! No wonder its worth so little. after 3 years i should be around half its new value.

Aygo has slightly higher spec level iirc.

Please don't be a fool who buys a new car to save money. The concept is idiotic.

have another look, most aygos seem to be selling for around 5k regardless of age even the 3 yo's.

If i do get one it will be a long term investment, i know it will cost me more in the short term.

You honestly think an Aygo is a "Long term investment"? A house is a long term investment. An Aygo is just a car. If you must change, get something sensible like a Focus or something

do you really NEED a new car? do you having problem with your car now?

if yes and you want cheap to run, then get Aygo.

edit: whatever you do, DONT buy brand new car (any car)

Yes i need to get another car but it doesnt need to be new, just saw the Aygo and thought hmmm.

Yes ive got problems with the 600, altinator is dead clutch master cylinder is on the way out and it needs a new rad. Just need to change the alt and i should be able to pass the other problems onto a new owner.

Ive looked at fiestas before but ive never really liked them, i know im picky when it comes to cars.

[edit]if i was to get a aygo then it would be new, nothing on the second hand market round here worth looking at
