Intel are planning to launch a value range of quad core CPU's to directly rival AMD's X3 and X4 parts.

The first budget part, a 2.33GHz quad-core Q8200 is said to launch in Q3, with a 1,333MHz FSB and 4MiB L2 cache. Pricing is believed to be around $203 in thousand-unit quantities

The 8000 series chips will be built on Intel's 45nm fab, and are believed to be a direct replacement for the current 65nm 6000 series. Reports suggest that Intel's new chips won't feature TXT (Trusted Execution Technology) and VT (Virtualisation Technology), in order to differentiate from its Q9000 parts.

Well it was on the Intel roadmap which is in the public domain and clearly shows it replaces the q6600 and is out in q3.

The only thing it doesn't show is speed and price but they could be guess work.

I could have written that article a week ago.

Will be x7 multiplier so clocking will be tricky :(

Not really my mobo runs at 500 fsb, p45 getting 550+ so 3.5Ghz+ on a p35 and 3.85Ghz+ on a p45 not too shabby

Clock per clock 10% faster than a q6600 so you could live with 10% less clock such as 3.2Ghz and still be the same as a q6600 running at 3.5Ghz.

And a lot of people don't get 3.5Ghz on their q6600.

Yes limited and not as good as the q9xxx for top speed but look at the price.

if its based on the 45nm chip there's every chance you won't get it much higher than 440/450 so still an entirely respectable 3.15ghz but the 45nm quad such as Q9450 etc are running out of steam before mobos as a rule.

Only 1mb cache per core which means pentium dual core performance ie quite poor unless overclocked, the 1mb cache core chips are around the athlon x2 4200/4400 performance level, sometimes a lot slower. seeing as there's very little gaming wise that demands a quad core not much of a bargain tbh.
