Company car

No but there must be something better than a Mondeo available. VW Passat?

Drove both as hire cars last year.... you get a lot more for your money with the Mondeo. The basic Passat only comes with 2 speakers! And the tax man likes to know about ALL optional extra's you put on.

I wasnt really on about just this thread it just seems every thread I look at where someone has asked for car recommendations all you hear is Mondeo.

In future I will browse this section with my eyes shut, its horrific.

Nothing personal against you Si and I respect that on buying company cars you know more than me.

What you have to remember is that most company cars are rep cars.... cars which are reliable and can eat up lots of miles. Most of the larger companies restrict you to certain manufacturers for example my company restricts you to GM cars so most people I work with who did not take the money drive Vecta's and Saabs. Both have special editions specifically for the company car market which have lots of options as standard and a good list price (Tax man taxes you on the retail price and ignores any discounts you get).

£4.5k a year really isn't a lot when it comes to a company car and is really in the Vectra or Mondeo. This is why people are recommending them.

So you have driven a Saab and done extensive research to back this up with facts? Trust me the older 9-5 are a million miles away from vauxhall tat.

Sorry?

The Saab 9-5 is built on General Motors' GM2900 platform. So it shares rather a lot with Vauxhal, Opel, Saturn et al. The GM2900 platform was replaced by Epsilon 2 in 2003, and a new 9-5 based on that will appear in time for the 2010 model year. It'll also be built at the Opel factory in Ruesselsheim, so quite how you can say the 9-5 is "a million miles away from vauxhall tat" escapes me....

Apologies to the OP for the off-topic-ness.

But of course you've never driven one or really done anything bar express your prejudice about something you know precious little, so your opinion is frankly worthless. PS hows the ever so exciting Focus.

Have I slagged a Mondeo now or before off.....NO I think you need to to get your facts right before you bang on the keyboard :) Just because you have owned a 'said' car in the past does not turn it into the best car to exist in whatever category.

I am beginning to think this forum should have a sticky at the top along the lines of

Thread title "Need a car?"

1) Practical cheap 2k worth car........Mondeo Ghia
2) Fast practical car........BMW 3/5 series but it must be a 6 pot or you fail.
3) Company car......Mondeo
4) Every other car is crap

If you cannot take other opinions just block everyone bar yourself :)

I have owned/driven a hell of a lot more cars than you Fords & BMWs included as you know, so am I not allowed an opinion? But if you would prefer you did not want to read any of my posts then please block me :)

Condecending someone with remarks like
PS hows the ever so exciting Focus.
Is beginning to get on my wick and achieves what exactly bar trying to antagonise a response.

Rant over :)

1) Practical cheap 2k worth car........Mondeo Ghia

Pretty much - cheap to run and doesn't break. What is your problem with that?

2) Fast practical car........BMW 3/5 series but it must be a 6 pot or you fail.

Unless somebody specifically asks, I NEVER recommend a 5 Series to anybody, mostly becuase of some of the utter, utter morons who post absolute tripe on this forum and make up complete lies to further their silly little points - I can't be bothered with the hassle I get from these plebs, so I simply dont recommend the 5 Series to anyone. I've deliberately not mentioned any names to avoid breaking the forum rules ;)

3) Company car......Mondeo

Well why not? You've yet to provide an arguement any more convncing than 'LOL MONDEO HA' so whats the problem?

4) Every other car is crap

For everyone else reading this, do make sure you link this comment with what I said above ;)

You are a hypocrit ;)

I've no idea how many cars you've driven - not enough to avoid buying an accident damaged 3 Series obviously (and then bitch about BMW for the next 10 years as a result of your bitterness) and you've no idea how many I've driven so perhaps we'll leave it at that.

Good :)

More lies I see... I have never owned a Mk4 Mondeo and never will own a Mk4 Mondeo. The only simiarlity between a car I once owned and this is the fact the keyfob says 'Ford' on it and it has a badge saying 'Mondeo' on the back. They are utterly different.

How is the Passat better? I know you dont like the Mk4 Mondeo (despite the fact you've not even sat in one let alone taken one for a drive) but you cannot deny its ability as a company car. It's damn good at what it does - better infact than the Passat.

Once you take into account contracts with 20-30k PA included and maintenance, £4500 a year does NOT go very far. Yes an Audi A4 would be nice, yes a Lexus would be even nicer, but you can't get one on that budget - you are unfortunately left with 'mundane' cars and the Mondeo, whether your blind prejudice agrees or not, is one of the best mundane cars you can buy.

I'm sick of people in this forum posting pathetic comments based on nothing. If you don't like the Mondeo that is entirely your opinion - why not offer some insight? Why not explain what you dislike about it and recommend a CREDIBLE ALTERNATIVE?

Posting 'LOL only if you are 50' and then suggesting a plethora of cars which are OUT OF BUDGET is completely pointless.

I understand what you're saying, but it even pains me when a 2007 Car of the Year, gaining excellent reviews and rated above its competitors is said to have 'bad interiors', 'lame drive', 'get a Passat instead' <--LOL

Im not directing this solely at yourself. But in age, certain price range and for whats its purpose is there IS going to be a 'Best' in class. It just so happens that many peoples budgets fall under the bracket in which a Mondeo might aswell. This forum isnt full of people who can smack £30k straight away on a brand new car where the market is hugely differentiated. Don't forget this chap in the OP has a BUDGET.

To the OP - Have a look around and see some cars in the flesh. IMO Mondeo is the better choice, looking at the budget you should be able to push for a Titanium X or maybe even a Titanium X Sport, the 2.2 Diesel engines are fantastic.....or a 318 ES.

Exactly, yet this forum appears full of people who are quite happy to ignore all of this simply becuase 'LOL MONDEO HAHA'

Says it all really you are not a likeable person

You expect me to be concerned you find me annoying after you posted all that?

Look on the bright side, at least it gave you an opportunity to ignore all the valid rebuttals to your 'points'. You posted a load of inaccurate criticisms of me and think the reason I said I was happy I wound you up was becuase I was 'not a likeable person'? I think its more likely that I'm not going to shed a tear about annoying somebody like yourself.

If I am not likeable, you are barely even tolerable. At least I make the effort to advise people. What do you do?

Go back to pretending I recommend 530's in every thread. Or get a life. I'll leave that particular choice up to you.

You obviously care because you have found yourself having to keep editing you posts ;)

Does that annoy you as well? ;)

You really are good at completely ignoring points that you cant answer or don't suit you. Have you considered a career in politics?

There we go with the hypocrisy again :D
