petrol prices

As it is not a strike caused by their actions it is perfectly ok for them to sit there whilst the country potentially grinds to a halt.

But it isn't grinding to a halt? It's just the media... doing what the media does best, making something out of nothing to shift papers or get viewings.

There are lots of things they could have done, one for instance maybe talking to the other retailers about laying on extra deliveries to cope with demand.

I'm sure the brains behind the world’s biggest companies know full well that they need to increase supply, because the general populace is all running out to fill up jerry cans and will still happily pay it with another 10p a litre on top.

The government can't suddenly get involved with this otherwise everyone will do it, from farmers to nurses because they know the government will get involved. The guys have a right to strike, and they'd be ignored by the press unless they took drastic action ala fuel depots. Of course it would require Shell to give them more money to get what they want but they're an outsourced company

I've got a moral dilemma - I've got 350 miles to drive on Monday.

Do I fill up as soon as I get the chance and contribute to the panic buying moron fest or simply fill up as I would normally on the Monday? :/

Fill up as normal, it'll be fine. I haven't filled up for a while but was with my dad when he did yesterday and there was no shortage, maybe it's just the northerners who feel the need ;)

Fill up whenever, it makes no difference really whether you fill up over the next few days or on monday morning, apart from that you may get price gouged if you wait until monday.

I guess it does make a difference if there isn't anywhere to fill up - Shell South Brent, Sainsburys Marsh Mills, Texaco at various locations all dry of unleaded.

its just taken me an extra 20mins to get home due to people queing for petrol. thought id be clever and go the back road. that was jammed to.

looking out my window now i can see the petrol station. the que does out and along the main road though the town. the whole town is at a standstill.

unbelivable!!

Possibly, I'd probably fill up over the next few days just to be safe, that's not joining the rabble, it's being sensible because you know you're doing a long journey. It's the people who are filling up 'just in case' when they have no planned journeys that are the problem.

I must admit i did fill up to the top the other day a lot sooner than i normally would have (had just over quarter of a tank), but thats due to passing a garage on the way home that was selling for £1.17 instead of the £1.25+ that every other garage is selling for at the moment around here.

Don't really consider this panic buying on my behalf, but on some subconcious level i guess it was in some small way

Woah, I NEEDED fuel today.... cost me £1.19 a litre.... ******** fuel strike, I have had enough with being bum raped for fuel... but sadly I don't know what I can do about it other than rant on here. :(

Managed to get £10 in, there wasnt any mad rushes at the ASDA near me. Business as normal tbh. Hope they dont run out soon though, got to do some commuting next week for some training :(

Think yourself lucky, I saw an article on the BBC site saying one garage was charging a flat rate of £1.99 per litre for all variants of petrol and Diesel.

One station in Exwick was charging £2 a litre today, and people paid it. Disgusting.

Morrisons was the only place in town with fuel left earlier, so everyone piled in there. Trouble is, the lane to get into Morrisons is only 5 cars long, which queues back into town. Never seen the town so busy with cars, it was absolutely mental :(

wow, and to think that not that long ago during the last fuel protest there was outrage that some garages were charging ONE pound a litre. Crazy..
