Thinking of buying a PS3

Having to endure a 5-10 minute install each time is worth it just for the fact that the PS3 is so quiet. Maybe if the 360 installed games, it wouldn't need to make so much noise.

The noise from my 360 is not that bad, I dont mind if at all.

I really didn't like the possibility of running out of spaced on the PS3 HD once a few games were on there.

I have 14 games for my 360 now, and if I had kept the PS3 I would have had about the same and probably no disk space.

Indeed, if it installed some data, it would not need to access the DVD drive so much (or so fast) during the game, hence cutting out the bulk of the noise.

Still, it is annoying that installs are becoming standard on a lot of PS3 games when good games have been produced without the need for installs. My own HDD has been upgraded, but as someone said 40gb users will end up doing a lot of "micro management" of their game data, over time.

Exactly, or pay another £50+ for a bigger disk and the luxury of not having to.

No thanks. so I sold it.

Not all games require installs. The majority of which are quite small in size anyway, the 4Gb+ installs, such as Assassins Creed, DMC, GTA are essentially the sandbox types. I'd say the majority of games dont require it.

another question, apart from disk size, are there any other differences between the 40gb and 60gb versions?

Can play SACDs as well, though they do use a higher manufacturing process, as my bros 40Gb is quieter than my 60.

Also the 60Gb just looks a million times better! Much heavier! Nice Silver Chroming on the drive and the little lip on the bottom and it has memory card slots with 4 USB slots also.

PS3 arrived:D

quick question which cable should i buy to play it in HD on my samsung tv, is the official sony ones any good?

As long as you are not running HDMI over distances longer than about 3m, then cheap cable is just as good as the most expensive one.

My PS3 is at the Post Office waiting to be picked up on Saturday :(

Uncharted is great and I enjoyed Heavenly Sword a lot although it was a tad short. I'd avoid Haze or maybe rent it.

As above, Uncharted rocks, Heavenly Sword is pretty good but short... not so impressed with Haze though.

MGS4 is where it is at :p

I love my PS3 just as much as my 360 - so that is saying something :D

seems a little pricey, im pretty shocked at the deals on at the moment as my mates looking for a ps3 too and i had been browsing the deals.

hope you enjoy mgs4 though, its totally worth it :D

Uncharted is fantastic, the other two I'd avoid as there are much better games out there - the aforementioned MGS4 is one, Ratchet and Clank is a cracking game as well. Then take your pick of DMC4, GTA4 and any others you don't have. You can also pick up Resistance for pennies these days, it's a decent shooter and will tide you over till 2 comes out.
