Whats an resonable wage?

graduates have a period of 3 - 4 years whereby the 2x age x1000 does not apply I would say. That is for the professional/engineering roles.

I am a Chemical analyst for a large company starting wage for
BSc ~21k
MSc ~22-23k

1 year ~24k
2 years ~26k

slowly increasing as its science people and they do not pay us that well!

As a result I am now switching after the first year for accountancy. I will be paid between 20 - 24k for the first two years then 29k for 3rd year. Once qualified 35-40k is expected. Things go a bit silly after that depending on what you get into.

I mean duh get over it, Im 18 and on £150,000. pfft get with the times

lol :D

See if you backed up your comment with what you did and in what field it wouldn't bother anyone, as with the other thread on this subject what people earn is not a concern for most but they give the numbers so others can get an idea of what can be gained in different ways.

I just changed job and got a slight increase but with the added travel I don't really feel that much better for it (damn petrol living prices...) but at least I will go up with £500 after 3 months and another £500 after another 3 months and then it should be near wage negotiating times so will ask for a nice increase..have to keep away from inflation rate :D

It's a foundation degree you are hardly going to walk into a big money job are you? Infact you are unlikely to with a proper job so the chances of doing it with a foundation degree are even worse.

Well i found out that our IT helpdesk Guy is on a few k more than me, where as to me his job would be aa step down the career ladder.
One think a lot of you say is how hard you keep pushing yourselves. I know this is going to sound weird but how do you do that.
I want to move on ward and upward, but dont know how to go about this.

what does success mean to you? picture it all, the money, the things you can do with it, the standard of life it would bring, the comfortability and stability it can bring. think of the happiness of reaching that goal, for you and your immediate family.

now you have a goal you need to set a plan and work to it. small steps over years it may be, but you will reach your goal.

All depends where you want to move to, what success means to you etc.

Are you in a job that is low paid now but will turn into a high paid one within the same organisiation?

Personally, I always took a few risks. When I left uni, I turned down a £25k job and took a £23k job because I knew there was a good chance of progression. That turned out well as I got made a manager in just over 1 year.

Then just over 2 years ago we bought a house. Once we were paying the mortgage, I decided to start looking for a higher paid job, which was when I took the decision to start my own company, which has a made a big difference to our lifestyle, although we are now trying to scale back our lifestyle and save more because we have pretty high aspirations about what sort of house we want in another 2 years.

Saving is hard! :D

Agreed with part of that, but when would you say is old enough?

I left uni at 22 on £23k, at 24 I was on £32k, and at 27 am on somewhere between £50k and £60k depending on dividends.

I did badly in my A levels and came out of a uni with a 2:2.

I tend to find it comes down to how hard you push yourself to keep moving on. And I will be the first to admit luck also plays a part!

what do you do out of interest?

It's not weird at all.

This job has killed off pretty much any ambition I had in my field. It's caused me significant emotional stress, some mental damage, and problems with my relationship.

Once you are stuck down, it is significantly harder to get to where you want.
