I could buy a new telly next week...

And you appear to be basing yours on the single experience of your good set.

Not just mine but other people i knew with similar samsung model. e.g. the 50" of the same model. His is still working fine, same with mine. While you're probably right regarding the increased failure rates for Samsung, could you link me to some evidence of that?

Have a look on hdtvforums - Hugeeeeee thread on there

Panasonic sets are indeed fine value but Mr Dean thought to stick the boot into Samsung.. **** n giggles and all that..
I decided to call him on it he says 49 posts later he was just messing about. Cool

To be honest at times this forum is much like the console forum with regard to HDTVS. (pioneer, panasonic, samsung). Just head into a thread about buying a ps3 to get what i mean...

Don't start about the console forum. It's murder in there. :p

As I mentioned before, I don't have any direct evidence, It's just the overwhelming feeling I get from the number of threads and comments on AVforums.

My point is to reccomend the best panel for the least amount of money. This would mean collecting my personal expereinces, and posting professional reviews and finding out what the op is looking for.

I would not enter the thread, as you did, and write a one word answer: "Samsung". Which model? What are the advantages disadvantes? Pro reviews on that model? Have you viewed the set? How much it it etc etc etc.....

As stated, I am not a Fanboi, and in reality, by you simply posting 'samsung' which no explanation of mdel, range, price, Pro's & con's etc etc - it appears you are, and defend that ignorance by throwing the charge at others in the hope it will stick.

I am not 'flaming' you mate. I have no interest in targetting specific users for the likes or dislikes, but I do know a little bit about Plasmas, LCD's and a lot of the confusion surrounding HDTV tech. I have learnt a lot of it here from -Ad-, [DOD]Asprilla and other users as well as hdtvforums.

I was offering Samsung as an option that he shouldnt discount just because 90% of people were saying Panasonic. Immediately after my comment you come in with a disparaging comment. So i'm thinking you got some kind of problem with Samsung? Me saying Samsung doesnt make your opinion any less valid dude. So it was unnecessary. If he was interested in the model of samsung etc then he would have asked me and i would have told him. I didnt say the model and other details because the PX80 is probably the better model. I like people to look at all the options without discriminating against one particular brand (which is what i thought you were doing)

I completely agree, and it seems you may have had your wires crossed. When I was looking for my Tv there was only 3 things I considered:
i)Price
ii)Picture & Sound Quality
iii)Warrenty / After sales service

All those seemed to come together on the PX80, and looking at the frightening amount of returns and issues with Sammys, I moved away from them almost instantly sadly.

Hello mate. Sorry to derail this thread further, but I'm currently considering a PX80 for my living room having purchased a 32LXD70 for my bedroom.

Would be nice to hear your thoughts as an owner. It would be mainly used for my (SD) Virgin Media box, as well as possibly my PS3. Does it perform equally well for both SD and HD sources, despite the low(ish) resolution?

Ta. :)

thats how i bought mine (and it was a tough decision)

Well ok sorry if i was aggressive i guess i am so used to the aggressive nature of console wars!

 at this thread !!

Just been to see the Panasonics at my local dealers to get an idea of what they look like in the flesh.... tried to sell me a TH42PZ85 for £1299 or a TH42PZ80 for £1099 :o

My fears about a sunny room look unfounded as they had some sets against a window in the same way mine will be. Also PQ of low quality stuff looked much better than i thought too.

My mind isn't made up yet :)

I think you are actually stirring yourself up. We were just reacting to your ever helpful post of 'SAMSUNG'. Please stop with your internet arguements, it really doesn't acheive anything, you clearly have nothing more to add here other than posting links to review sites, so please leave it be.

Look what you have done :p

The PZ range are ok, but worse for normal SD footage than the PX80, and 1080p doesn't even matter unless you are 5-6ft away, trust me I tried at the weekend with x2 ISF calibrated sets running casino royale and starship troopers on blu-ray. the difference was minimal.

Good luck with the hunt, any questions then fire away, hopefully I will be able to find them amongst surfers posts :p

What in the?...and i was in a conciliatory mood in my last post...well fine forget that.

I certainly have more to add if it means they have more options as to which set to buy. Ive used, setup, owned, both plasma and lcd so my opinion is as valid as anyones else despite how much you guys will try to beat it down. I was prepared to let bygones be bygones but you really like prodding the beast when its asleep ehh... i think i'll be a lot more active in this forum now :)

p.s. Its argument not arguement :)

Why directly quote me then? Beggars belief...

Just ignore him like I have, then maybe he will go back to the console wars in the relevant sub-section.

Plasma tvs have a more relective screen like good ol' CRT tvs, but LCDs have a more matt finish so they don't suffer as badly. Mine is opposite a window, so I normally have to adjust the blinds if the sun is shining in, but when the sun is at the opposite end of the house it doesn't affect my pleasure too much :D

I would say if you can stretch to it, then go for a Kuro they really are in another leaugue. If not, then forget about them forever, never go look at one and get the panasonic PZ80. I wouldn't bother with the PZ85, it seems very very overpriced for a few extra features.

coz you were unaware of what you had done? That was me being helpful and thats your attitude.

Not a chance :)

But yeah i'd be obliged if you would both just not respond to my posts either directly or making snide comments indirectly (like you've both done now).

Because all it does is stir up another round. I'm sure the mods dont want that.

Have a nice day :)
