Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots *Snaaaaake! Edition*

Just finished it, this game has been hyped and hyped way back since 2005, I never thought it could ever live up to the amount of hype it got, but I will be honest and say it has, and then some.

Not only does this game have the best graphics and best sound I have ever seen or heard on any video game, on any platform, it also tells the story perfectly, this game has set new standards not only in graphics and sound, but in emerging the gamer into the story, I have never been emotionally touched by a game before until now.

Kojima Productions have raised the bar by a long way imo.

nowhere near as well told and touching as MGS1 imho. But i do put that game on a pedestal that nothing else can touch.

I played mgs1 again a few months ago and i dont think it holds a candle to MGS4, try playing it now it feels so arcane, but it was one of the best games of its gen as is MGS4.

i played it again on friday after completing 4. Maybe its nostalgia, but it still holds up. The score and storytelling in that game were ten years ahead of their time and still trounce most of the tripe put out today. I cried during sniper wolfs death and the ending and felt inspired. Perhaps it was the time in my life or something, but that game really really got me.

MGS4 is still my favourite game of all time alongside MGS1, i'm just saying i think the story telling was more streamlined and emotionally touching in MGS1, i still love Naomi's speech "choose life, and live".

Not to mention, "Enclosure" and of course "The best is yet to come"

Check out this thread and some of the MGS collections the members have going on.

shame he's missing the euro metal gear solid in the grey box (the one i had) and the euro MGS3 snake eater standard in the greenish box. other than that, thats a mighty fine collection. i wish i had as much memorabilia. i tried to get every final fantasy but it got hard finding the older stuff in good condition.

Yeah, i felt so bad suring the sniper wolf part in MGS. I would play it again if i could find a PS memory card, only have PS2 ones.

The only problem with the story telling in MGS (and it was more of a tech limit i think) was too much was done with the CODEC, but MGS4 does it more through cut scenes.

Im trying to play stealthily and im playing on the hardest setting your allowed, i think its called big boss. Act 1 no kills, unfortunatly i got a massive 11 kills on act 2, not sure how i managed that:p

Ultra n00bish question alert....!!!

What kind of game is this, is it a FPS, stealth game or action game?

As previously stated, all of those options are available. The game rewards stealth more than the others but it is very possible to rambo your way through or even play it as an FPS.

First time through i used silenced lethal weapons as that's the easiest way to get through the game - permanently neutralize the enemy and then hide the body. This time through i'm trying to do it without killing a single person, while that rewards you with bonuses at the end of the game it is a lot harder as when you knock an enemy out they will eventually wake up again so you need to be gone by then.

well i can easily say it is by a long way the best looking game ive seen on my ps3, stunning at times. The cut scenes arent that bad so far, but im not even on act 2 yet lol. so far i can say the game is seriously gripping.

Could someone link me to a youtube/GT video summarising the MGS history (story not the actual game history)? I'm about to start playing but need to get up to speed!

oh my god you're in for a mind****.

I love hearing reactions to the story from people who are new to Metal Gear.

A friend of mine claims Snake Eater to be one of his favourite games ever, yet up until i told him yesterday he had no idea he was playing as Big Boss. (He's never played 1 or 2)

Lol, I got 113 kills on Act 1 - god knows how, think it was mainly frogs, but rest assured I played the rest of the game with less kills :D

Playing extreme now and not killing anyone, I'm not aiming to be done in 5 hours, but the zero alerts and kills is the goal, it's certainly made Act 1 more interesting now.

Scort.
