Ryanir & Baggage allowance

Hi,

I'm thinking of flying to Milan in August with Ryanair but am baffled by their baggage allowance. When I go through the booking process they seem to charge a fee for any checked in baggage but do not state if hand luggage is free. I've had a look through their website but it mentions nothing regarding hand luggage.

So does anyone know if there is a charge for checking in baggage and if there is fee for taking in hand luggage?

AFAIK hand luggage is free, its just the Hold luggage that has the fee and limited to 15KG i think.

afaik the charge is for checked baggage only, hand luggage is free

depends on what airport you are flying from, though this only applies at first check. once through to departures you can buy pretty much what you like iirc.

I flew with Ryanair last year.

We were over the 15kg limit, so shoved loads of stuff into hand luggage, charge avoided

Same here, we had a 15KG limit it wasn't a problem going out but coming back I found myself stuffing clothes into rucksacks to carry on *damn alcohol*.

It's one bag per person, but weight isn't a problem. You can carry on them really small suitcases.

May I suggest them portable weighers, we have one and it's really handy, you can weigh cases on holiday using it and before leaving - you simply hook it on the case and lift. Got the weight good too.

If you take ANY hold bag then you need to pay a fee, I think you also have to pay a fee to use the check in desk...I could be wrong though....The actual max dimensions should be on the website, the max weights is 15kg.

I've never actually paid to fly Ryanair haha

It's all on their website (spooky huh?)...

Each passenger (excluding infants) is permitted to carry one piece of cabin baggage on board (free of charge). It should weigh no more than 10kg and not exceed the maximum dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. Due to security restrictions - certain items cannot be carried in cabin baggage - click here for details. For the safety and convenience of all passengers, cabin baggage must fit underneath the seat or in the overhead compartment. We reserve the right to cancel your reservation without refund and to deny you boarding if you arrive at the boarding gate with more than one item of cabin baggage or if that item exceeds the maximum dimensions.

Yep, they charge you £4 to check-in. I guess this is how they make their tickets initially look so cheap, by having all these additional fees that you can't avoid, which end up bumping the total price of the ticket to the same as other carriers who absorb the fees in the ticket price.

I take it you're one of their pilots, Blinkz? Are the flight decks in the same gaudy colours as the cabin?

Nope they are standard Boeing grey....We have nice colourful LCDs to look at tho, but saying that when they are REALLY colourful things aren't generally good haha. Seats are a lot more comfortable then yours though

10kg hand luggage - which is the size of a decent sized weekend case - also get free prioroity boarding as you dont need to check in baggage.

If you're travelling with a woman tho, you'll need the checked baggage (

) which allows 10kg in hand luggage, and 15kg in hold luggage.

Whilst we're on the subject or Ryanair i have to say i detest their boarding policy. It makes all of the passengers into crazed stampeding buffalo. Horrid affair - even with priority boarding - as a lot of foreign airports sell you tickets, but ignore it.

Juts been over to Vegas with the missus for a couple of weeks flying with Virgin, on way out out baggage weighed 52kg between us , on way back 86kg :eek:

Which pilots for some reason seem to think are touch screens and are covered in finger prints after a day flying. They then expect them cleaned. No chance

Priority boarding systems can be good for a laugh. Last time I flew with SleazyJet, priority boarding just meant you paid more to get on the bus to the plane first. Unfortunately, that then meant you were last off the bus. Money well spent by those in a hurry... not!

My favourite is when the pilot writes up, 'center console dirty'. We have now started just entering "stop eating your food over the center console"

I had a conversation with a captain this week who said when he was training the trainer would ball them out every time they touched a screen. I refuse to clean them and if I get called out hand over the screen wipes.

I wonder if they touch their lcds at home
