Best insurance co for remapped car

thing is, with a straight remap there is like ZERO chance you'd ever be in trouble come claim time, absolutely zero.

insurance inspector is never gonna download your map and compare with stock :)

sometimes honesty is not the best policy in life ;)

Surely it's easier to just drive around with no insurance?

Not the same thing at all.

Insurancecompanies charge more for stupid things, £150 for alloy wheels but they will only replace standard in a claim made me laugh (Bell)

A remap does not change a VW Polo into a Ferarri, it will not make him anymore likely to crash, it will not change the car value, therefor it has no impact to his insurance, only that it is an excuse for the company to charge more money.

Getting insurance on your car on a parents policy is far worse, yet 90% of people wouldn't think this is wrong.

Why? Increasing a car's performance means there could be a higher potential to crash. Driving on your mum's policy... well doesn't do a lot really. Not that I'm condoning it.

Also you'll probably find that any sort of modification to the power is prohibited in your policy documents unless you notify them :p so it pretty much automatically makes your insurance invalid

Because the policy states that the policy is for the MAIN DRIVER by insuring in a parents name when it is your car and you will be driving over 50% of the time your are gaining insurance by diception (may be fraud of sorts?) you have been insured at a rate of someone far less likely to have an accident than you.

A remap will not overly change the performance of the car enough to warrent a change in insurance and as it is undetectable to all intents and purposes why allow yourself to be played by the insurance company.

Technically any deviation from factory spec should be advised, do you advise when you change your tyres and you have diffferent speed rated tyres? Where is the line?

Most sensible insurance companies don't charge much more if anything for alloy wheels, depending.

£150 - you were ripped off.

I'm sure you'd tell your insurance company if you've modified a naturally aspirated petrol car's exhaust, induction, cams, head etc to yeild, say, 50bhp? Why wouldn't you do the same for gaining 50bhp (or more) by remapping a turbocharged car?

I wasn't as I didn't bother going with them ;)

There is balance between what is fair for an insurance company to increase a premium for and what there isn't, hence why most reasonable companies do not charge for 10% power increase or less.

My M3 had cams, remap and exhaust (race cats etc) I notified about the exhaust as that was the only visible thing. I was paying £1300 fully comp on a high performance car my mods gave me + 45bhp and the car was pulling 330bhp not the typical BMW guestimate of 343bhp so again I was less than 10% over spec and It was a high risk car anyway so in my opinion it made no odds and any increase in premium was not warranted.

I several people with performance cars that have made high claims (and a write off) and they barely even look at the car and never went close to looking under the hood, let alone checking the profile of your cams or downloading your ecu.

And the genuine possibility of a remap being done by a previous owner would make give you a defence anyway.

How many people here can know 100% if there car is on a standard map?
