Firefox 3.0 Download Day (Guinness World Record)

This is from the betas, but it might still be relevant.

The release notes also refer to a Bugzilla bug unfortunately titled hotmail.com - Hotmail (Classic interface) cannot be accessed from non-Firefox Gecko browsers. The contents of the bug seem to indicate that it's a browser sniffing error on the part of Microsoft. The only apparent workaround at present is to spoof another browser, which can be accomplished pretty easily using an extension like User Agent Switcher.
It sounds like MS is attempting to detect your browser and is failing as it doesn't recognize Fx3. Try switching to a Fx2 user agent.

Might have already been asked, but has anyone heard when were gonna be seeing a version of Google Browser Sync that works with v3?

Very impressed so far. Been using it for a whole day and not a single crash. Compare that to the dozen plus crashes I was having a day with the most recent version of Firefox 2 and it's quite an improvement.

FF2 never crashed on me... it was just much slower.

Definite improvement over FF2. Javascript heavy sites like digg no longer freeze on me :)

I have one niggle, when I downloaded it to use in work today, XML files seem to be styling themselves with HTML, using <li> :(, when I haven't got the XML files styled with XSL stylesheet or anything. On FF2 though they displayed correctly and I could see the whole structure etc as it should appear.

thanks for the replies about getting tmp to work, will give it a try in a minute.

Another thing is i can no longer move the things on the bottom right bar of the browser, i currently have things like foxmarks, ie swtich, webMail and i can't move them into the positions i want them. anyone know why?

also can't remove each download from downloads box as before, only all or none. seems weird that this has been removed so wondering is it possible that something like All in one sidebar gave this so i just have to wait until that works with ff3?

Yeah, quite a coincidence it took till release day to "find" that, given there's been release candidates (and betas/alphas before that) available for ages...

Firefox claims download success

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7462900.stm
Mozilla is claiming a download record for the release of Firefox 3.0. In the first 24 hours the web browser was available the software was downloaded more than eight million times, says its creator Mozilla. Statistics from the download servers are being scrutinised to produce an official figure that will be passed to the Guinness World Record organisation. But the launch was marred by news from computer security firms who have found the first flaws in the software.

Downloaded it, loaded it up, used for about 30 minutes, returned to opera 9.5

I'm afraid I still don't see what all the fuss is about with firefox...

Right click (or ctrl click) and select Remove from List.

As for the status bar, you might want to file that as a bug/feature request.

In the beginning the fuss was that it was a fast, free browser with tabs. Now that Opera is (ad) free and all major browsers are reasonably fast and support tabs the fuss is about features and extensions. People who have extensions that they use a lot that are not replicated with any other browser are not going to want to switch away.
