Crossfire 4850's on a 965 (P5B Deluxe)

How do people reckon it will fair?

I'm not so sure myself. I cba with changing the board as that's not cost effective.

In crossfire mode the board runs 16x 4x. I know there wasn't much performance loss on X1900 crossfire way back when but what about with these cards?

Enough to bottle neck it a lot? What do you lot think.

Wont it run in 8x 8x aswell? dont know how it will do, but im thinking about when a 4870x2 comes out might just put my 2900xt in the 4x slot on my motherboard and let the 4870x2 run at 16x

but then again last night i was looking at a x48 mobo, too much choice!

Nah the 975 runs 8X8X

965 runs 16x4x

If the 965 isn't up to it I may aswell get a GX2 as that would simply be more cost effective for me...

or you could sell the motherboard you have now plus graphics card which would be enough for allmost one 4850 im guessing then your only paying for a new motherboard +1 extra card

thanks for that, dam interesting article, not enough people do tests like these, I'm thinking about going CF on my 975 and was a little worried about my limited 8x8x performance, going on that article it should be fine but then they were older cards, bloody hard decision this time round, theres just so many configurations.

Sold one on the bay 6 wks ago for £47, 2 years old or not the performance with an E8xxx CPU is as good if not better than any of the newer boards.

If you don't then looking at that link, the performance hit wasn;t that bad at 16x/4x

So what if your 4850 xfire run 10% slower than they should. They will still be up there and pretty good.

Leaves you the option of going full xfire when you upgrade your mobo later (which you will do at some point)

Or just wait for a 4870x2 which should destroy the GX2 for the same money?
