Top Spin 3

dont know if its just me, but the L1 & R1 buttons seem to do jack  - L1 is supposed to run you to the middle, and R1 is supposed to run you to the net...

they dont :(...

They do it's just not that instant. Hold down L1 and he moves to the most likely position, hold R1 and as you play shots he works his way to the net. This is not instant and happens as you play shots.

To be honest I think they are pony and you may as well use the analogue stick to position yourself.

Anyone got right stick serving nailed yet?

Overall i like the game but one thing that i don't like is the player movement for some reason its just don't feel fluid and responsve at times.
Danny i am serving using right stick and RT as well and consistantly serving between 115 to 130mph depanding who i am playing with,to use this combination you just have to be very percise with your timing there is not much room for mistake.

I understand what your saying and have just done some more practice with the LB and RB. I think your right they are useless.

Regards the serve with the right stick do you pull down then push up? I'm finding if I just pull down then let go the speed of my serve is the same as if I pushed up. Also like topspin 2 i'm finding against better opponents your better off serving slower because you only get it back plus 10% off someone like federer.

Roddick is a prime example, he can barely get a point off his serve against me. I just time an A shot with power straight down the line after he powers one at me. I've just played him and he got 7% of his first serve points.

A tad silly that.

Yes mate, thats what i am doing push down and push up while pressing RT button and using left stick for direction, but having said that you have to be very precise with your right stick when to push up again,if you push up to early that service will go long and if its late then into net.
The problem i find with using LB to move player quickly from on side to other is if you commet yourself with using LB to move player from one side to other and if other player hit the ball oppsite direction there is no chance you can switch back,i mean at that time it feels that you have no control what so ever over player but having said that if you look what happen in real tennis if player commet himself to goto one side and other player hit the short on oppsite direction what happen obviously no chance for player to come back so on that note we can say its close to reality and as so many times we already said this in not an arcade game anyway so i suppose we have live with this problem.

Tennis is a really good, fun, smooth game, at least it was for the 18 years I played!

This, just seems too clunky, all the parts are there and work very weel, but the transition between them is just, gah! :( REALLY wanted this to be an instant :D as aside from Virtua Tennis games, I haven't really found many great ones (Aside from Advantage Tennis on the Atari ST) :)

Just played it and not particularly impressed with what they have done to the series. More of a simulation that's for sure, but the changes to the controls have ruined it for me and I really cant be arsed with a "technical" tennis game.

Also I find the choice of music quite random, and not fitting with the game at all which also adds to the annoyance factor.

I've also come to the conclusion that the LT + RT - In a tight game they aren't even worth pressing as 90% of the times the ball goes out of play.

Some advice required:

Spent the afternoon learning and playing but now stuck. I got promoted to the Juniors but they are all a world away better, is there anyway to get extra skill points without playing matches?

Yep that happened to me, I dropped the skill level down one notch to build my stats up a bit. Then put it back up. Hit start then options when your in career. The only other way is to keep playing season after season on the level your at. I didn't fancy that.

It's not til you level up a bit you realise how well this plays. I've had some absolute 3 set wars with federer. Then you see how much stamina plays a part and you start taking less risks.

i'm in a love/hate relationship with this game right now - i've had some great rallies that are another level above any other tennis game ever released.

i've also felt like throwing the controller into my TV when the player movement frustrates me, serving is a touch annoying also.

but overall this game is great and there's no more predictability....every match plays genuinely different.

does anyone know if its possible to change the player model once you've commenced?

i gave my guy some stupid eyebrows and he needs some plastic surgery :p

Won my first slam event. 1 million cash and a stack of XP! 85 on my forehand now!

You really dont get much XP though to play with. You can have a max of about 70 overall. You get 560 tops to spread out over the 8 stats. Quite good really because if someone goes 90-100 say on power the rest of the stats would kill them. Trying to find a nice balance is good.

Nice going Danny, i'm sucking royally, still struggling but getting there, played online last night and got a 3-0 3-0 whooping! :(

Overall: 30 lol

Extremely dissapointed now. Was loving this game in SP. Maxed out my player to overall 70. Was hoping you could then juggle your player about to find a decent balance online.

Nope it's locked, so the only way to change the stats is to start another career :(

Can't be bothered with that tbh.

I will finish the SP career and sell the game. I've put my stats into areas that clearly judging by the top players doesn't need to be done.

I just played a guy with 100 on forehand and backhand 100 speed, 100 power and tiny stats on everything else.

Even though I could return his serve his next shot was a bullet. His speed made sure he could get on the end of what ever was thrown his way.
